Check Your Disk Space - The Groovy Way

Excellent Aussie techie site, lifehacker.com.au has alerted us once more to something excellent. This time it's schmick looking program that details the contents of your hard drive in a sexy and useful way. Kind of like having a digital Pepper Potts, in some ways, kind of having an excuse to getting some futuristic stuff on your computer whilst at the same time pretending it's improving your 'productivity' in others.

Seriously though, diskspacefan is pretty gosh-darned cool. It looks pretty straightforward - a fan-graph of the contents of your hard drive, carefully colour coded making spotting file and folder sizes a snap. You can start off with a normal pie-chart, and then get into the nitty gritty that ends up looking like a fast-moving porcupine has hit a slow-moving truck.

It's a very straightforward, easy to use program, that we think may be a bit cool not only for PC Jockeys wanting to update their hot rods, but also for the less hardcore 'find and click' generation, who may benefit from a program that shows you all your files and allows you to interact with them a la Explorer.

For Mac users - bad news - it's only available (for the time being) for Windows XP/Vista/7. For Windows users, good news - it's teeny tiny. 1.21 MB for the free version, 1.96 for the 'Pro' version that'll set you back $19.95.

Hardcore PC users will see this as similar to the disk usage analyser that comes pre-installed in Ubuntu, or similarities to Scanner, but for the casual user, it looks like a bit of useful fun.
