The year is 2063 and International Rescue a secret organisation based somewhere in the Pacific always on the lookout for trouble and dedicated to saving those in perilous situations is dynamically overseen by Jeff Tracy ex-astronaut and self-made millionaire whose private South Pacific island is International Rescue's secret headquarters.

Tracy's five sons: Scott, Virgil, Alan, Gordon and John (named after the first five astronauts in space) are also dedicated to the cause as are shy young boffin designer Brains and female engineer and electronics expert Tin Tin. Arch-villain of the piece is mysterious master of diguise The Hood a super-criminal with hypnotic powers and a determination to undermine International Rescue and learn the secrets of the Thunderbirds' craft.
