Reuniting director Barry Sonnenfeld with most of the original hit film’s cast, Men in Black II picks up four years later with alien-monitoring secret agent Jay (Will Smith) stuck in a rut. For Jay, it’s another day at the office, monitoring, licensing and policing all alien activity on Earth until he receives a report of an unauthorised landing of an alien spacecraft near New York. It’s an old enemy of MIB, a Kylothian named Serleena, who is searching for a powerful artefact called The Light of Zartha. Jay investigates and quickly realises he is going to need help so he tracks down Kay (Tommy Lee Jones) who no longer has any memory of his days as a Men in Black agent.
While Serleena takes over the MIB headquarters, Jay attempts to jog Kay’s memory – Kay is the only person alive who has the expertise to save the galaxy. It’s a race against the clock to reunite the MIB before the earth submits to ultimate destruction.
