Former war-veteran Captain Malcom 'Mal' Reynolds captains the Firefly-class transport ship "Serenity".

Mal's crew is made up of tough fellow war veteran Zoe Warren, Zoe's husband, pilot Hoban 'Wash' Washburne, the mercenary and filthy Jayne Cobb, young engineer Kaylee Frye, former Alliance medical officer Simon Tamm, his teenage sister River (both on the run from the Interplanetary government "The Alliance"), the mysterious and beautiful Companion, Inara Serra and religious man Shepard Book.

The Serenity flies at the edge of the law, smuggling, stealing, and isn't above doing the odd good deed - if it pays enough.
