What started out as a cult favourite has burgeoned into four amazing seasons of the most thought provoking, well written, well acted and well produced Sci Fi ever made.
If you're a fan of Sci Fi, then you're a fan of the re-imagined version of Glen A. Larsen's classic TV series. Created by Ronald D. Moore and David Eick, Battlestar Galactica follows the harrowing adventures of the last surviving humans who once called The Twelve Colonies their home. After a sneak attack by the Cylons, a race of robots who have transformed themselves through technology into biological creatures indistinguishable from humans at first glance, the one last surviving 'spacecraft carrier' Battlestar Galactica shepherds a ragtag fleet of survivors, fighting off constant Cylon attacks as the Colonials search for a sanctuary - the mythical lost colony of 'Earth'.
With a cast led by the legendary Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell, Battlestar Galactica is serious Sci Fi for grown-ups, with state of the art special effects, but also sometimes painfully direct questions about the nature of life itself, the purpose and reason for humanity's existence, and an epic plot that stretches back not just to the First Cylon War, 40 years ago, but eventaully, thousands of years, as the series borders on the very edge of science fiction and religion.
It's amazing TV. Right here, on SCI FI.
