The third series in the remarkably successful Stargate franchise, Stargate Universe, will begin shooting February 4 for a Northern hemisphere summer 2009 premiere on the US SCI FI Channel. With Stargate Atlantis finishing strongly and the Stargate : SG1 movies selling spectacularly, the groundswell support for Universe is strong among the fans. There's also quite the 'what will the come up with next? quotient to the fan speculation for Universe as the bare detials eeked out by Stargate uber-honcho, Brad Wright, reveal little more than a human crew stuck on an ancient vessel far far far far far far away from Earth.

In a world simply brimming with movie franchises there seems to be one that chugs along quite happily without 'overhype' whilst retaining a high level of quality. The kids of today are growing up with Harry Potter (quite literally) and have been afforded the rare pleasure of seeing their epic saga translated to the big screen without a twenty year gap.

Thus a rare frisson runs through the internet as Harry's latest movie pokes its nose out with a teaser. Have a look:

The torturous journey of one of the world's most anticipated MMORPGs seem to have hit a straight, with progress and details being reported in a recent interview on Allakhazam.com. It's all good news Trekkies as the executive producer of Star Trek Online, Craig Zinkievich opens up on key gameplay aspects. The breadth and scope of this game looks to be quite unique, so cool in fact, that you may not have to be a die-hard Trekkie to join in.

CAPTAIN'S BLOG

This week is yet another huge (and hilarious) week in what is increasingly becoming a heck of a year for SCI FI Australia. We're starting off the run towards Christmas with brand new shows, some classic moments and some never before seen hits that will have you thanking your lucky stars that yes, you do enjoy the odd bit of Sci Fi.

Tuesday night sees the eighties genius of Ghostbusters 2 hit SCI FI. If you've ever wondered why people refer to Bill Murray as a 'comedian' look no further than his deadpan role of Dr Peter Venkman, ladies man and ghost hunter, who, with buddies Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) and Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), must continue the slime-heavy work of ghostbusting in New York City. One of the most oft-quoted film franchises in the Sci Fi pantheon, the sequel to the 1984 classic has New York under seige from ghostly forces - but the Ghostbusters have been sidelined due to legal action! Can intrepid battlers of ectoplasmic evil overcome the forces of bill-by-the-hour darkness? Fingers crossed!

All the news that fits our print, this Tuesday, so far!

SETH ROGEN SAYS GREEN HORNET WILL BE FUNNY, BUT PERHAPS NOT FUNNY FUNNY
In what looks to be a pretty gutsy move, Seth Rogen, star of such films as Knocked Up and writer of Superfly has chatted with a view people about working on the script, including AICN. Here's what he had to say.

"One day we want to make a serious film and then Stephen Chow comes in with a good idea and we're like, 'Well it's funny.' Should we not do it because we originally wanted to do a serious film? We come from, nah fuck it, we'll just take the idea that seems good."

Spectrum is now alive and pulsating with some cool behind the scenes footage of 2009's biggest superhero movie, Watchmen.

Based on Alan Moore's Pulitzer Prize-winning graphic novel, this is a superhero tale told against a backdrop of Cold War paranoia and the dread of imminent nuclear annihilation. It's something quite different from any comic book adaptation we've seen (even in 2008!).

Do the next best thing to reading the mammoth tome itself - get to know the actors, creatives and craftsmen behind this fascinating film. We even have the new trailer! You'll be able to glean if it really is going to be the biggest hit of 2009 - or not.

This week it's a week of classic Sci Fi on SCI FI, with some new spins on classic stories and some must-see episodes from classic shows!

First up, on Monday night is the 1988 version of The Blob. With great special effects (in the days before CGI), this remake of the 1958 classic (starring Steve McQueen) stars Kevin Dillon and Shawnee Smith (from Becker and Saw) who have to deal with a much faster, more voracious blob in a film that really relishes it's genre foundations. Do yourself a favour and discover a film that is as fun as it is disconcerting - The Blob, on Tuesday Oct 21, at 10.20pm
