Comicmix.com has reported on the latest from the Battlestar Galactica factory - it seems that shooting has already begun on the latest BSG stand-alone film.

"Battlestar Galactica fans will rejoice when shooting begins on Monday on Battlestar Galactica: The Plan, a new story written by Jane Espenson. Like last year’s Razor telefilm, it will fill in a continuity gap using the regular cast. The film is expected to air after the final mini-season of BG airs in the first quarter of 2009 on (the US) Sci-Fi Channel.

SCI FI PI comes to you live, from the US!

In talks with press today in Hollywood, Jon Favreau revealed (just casually) that the HUD in Iron Man would look awesome in 3D, and that he saw the Imax footage of The Dark Knight as 'game changing' with an impact similar to the way that the original cinema affected people who had never seen it before.

He went on to discuss the possibility of shooting, if not the next Iron Man, but the one after, on Imax and in 3D, subject to budgetary constraints. Of which, he is sure, Marvel have an idea, but at this stage they have the 'write the script first, then we'll see' attitude to how much money will be set aside for the 2010 release.

This Sunday, the sauce factor is high on SCI FI with the excitement and thrills of Barb Wire, starring none other than Pamela Anderson as Barbara 'Barb Wire' Kopetski.

It's the 21st Century and the US is in its second civil war. Barb has two jobs - running the Hammerhead bar in America's last free city, Steel Harbour, (with the occasional pole dance thrown in) and of course, as a bounty hunter. Things go from bad to worse when an old flame turns up and she must battle not only bad guys but bad governments.

Do have a look, do.

http://www.scifitv.com.au/Spectrum/ is now the home of possibly the sexiest video player on the internet. Sure that sounds a bit over the top, a bit too much like hype, one of those unbackable claims that one usually associates with Nigerian Banking or 3G iPhone posts.

But really, have a look.

The Ugnaughts and the Doozers have joined forces with the Technomages and produced a video player of rare brilliance. Practical, beautiful and with some lovely flourishes, it is a thing of beauty, and hence will be a joy forever.

Ghostbusters 3 In The Works

NEWS

Tuesday, September 9

by Captain

Harold Ramis, one of the original creators of Ghostbusters, (and Egon!) recently spoke to the Chicago Tribune to confirm details about a proposed third film.

"Yes, Columbia is developing a script for GB3 with my Year One writing partners, Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg," Ramis e-mailed the newspaper. "Judd Apatow is co-producing Year One and has made several other films for Sony, so of course the studio is hoping to tap into some of the same acting talent."

Ramis added that he and his Ghostbusters collaborators Dan Aykroyd and Ivan Reitman "are consulting at this point, and, according to Dan, Bill Murray is willing to be involved on some level. He did record his dialogue for the new Ghostbusters video game, as did Danny and I and Ernie Hudson."

With the Australian Television Premiere of The Dresden Files on tonight on SCI FI at 7.30pm, we thought to our selves - what better way to introduce new viewers to the show than a peek at the original book that started it all - Jim Butcher's Storm Front.

We've got the first chapter right here to give you some idea of the noirish gumshoe style, and the fun you can have when jaunting about Chicago with Harry Dresden. It's also a good way for fans of Sci Fi and Fantasy books to have a look at Jim Butcher's excellent work, and find out if they, perchance, may wish to purchase one or two to continue the adventures in written form.

What's On This Week Sep 8 - 14

CAPTAIN'S BLOG

Sunday, September 7

by Captain

This week is a little bit special for SCI FI Channel Australia. Not only will be launching a PayTV premiere, but an Australian TV premiere!

The critically acclaimed Dresden Files screens for the very first time on Australian TV, ever, on Monday night at 7.30pm, right here, on SCI FI.

It's time to get excited and embrace a show that takes a practical and hard-headed approach to modern wizardry. Harry Dresden is something of a Harry Potter - if Harry lived in Chicago and was the kind of hard-bitten detective one might find in a Raymond Chandler novel. Harry has a dark gift, and is in fact the object of much toing and froing in the supernatural world - but all he really wants to do is earn a crust and get through the day.

Quarantine Trailer Is A Bit Scary

VIDEO

Friday, September 5

by Captain

Friday is often Zombie Day at SCI FI, not because we have to, but because we like to. It involves the living dead, and sometimes a hangover. Be that as it may, it's not suprrising that we're excited by the upcoming little indie film, Quarantine, which is a remake of an ultra low budget but stylish Spanish film, called (REC), which refers to the 'record' button on your video camera.

The gag is that we're following a news journo around one night who is riding along with firemen and then we run into trouble in an apartment block. Undead trouble.
