Beau Bridges Interview

INTERVIEWS

Friday, April 11

by Captain

Beau Bridges is a legend. The fact that we can speak to him at SCI FI PI is astounding. Son of Hollywood legend Lloyd Bridges, brother of Jeff Bridges, Beau has won so many acting awards over his illustrious career and garnered such a reputation that it boggles the mind to think that he actually plays a character on a Sci Fi show. But not only that, he loves it!

Playing General Hank Landry in the last two seasons of Stargate; SG1, and in the new Stargate DVD films, The Ark of Truth and Continuum, he has garnered a new set of fans who have responded enthusiastically to the steadfast military man with a twinkle in his eye. He spoke with us about Stargate, the people who work there and how to succeed in 'the family business'.

One man's meat is another man's poison. One man's humour is another man's lifeless chunk of wasted time. Watching this film is a deeply personal exploration. There's no shame in laughing at it, or even with it. Whether it's funny or not is up to you. Is it a good movie? No. Will you enjoy it? That's really up to you.

From the opening sweeping mix of the Stargate theme and an alien alpine landscape, you can tell that The Ark of Truth is bigger than the usual SG1 episodes. For those of us who have waited so long since the curtailed completion of Season 10, there's a Lord of the Rings grandeur to the opening titles, a mix of great expectation and relief. It's finally here.

New Stargate - Stargate:universe

NEWS

Monday, April 7

by Captain

Rumours about a third Stargate show have finally been solidified into an official announcement. The new project is to be called Stargate:Universe and yes, it does centre on the use of the 'ninth chevron'.

For those who aren't hard core RDA fans or 'Gaters', the original Stargate was 'dialled' to any other stargate in our galaxy by using seven chevrons that created an address corresponding with another stargate, just like a phone number. In Stargate:Atlantis, an eighth chevron was discovered, meaning that the 'area code' could now include another galaxy, the Pegasus galaxy. That's where Atlantis was discovered, and a show was born.

Neil Gaiman is coming to Australia!

The author of Stardust, Neverwhere and American Gods will be in Australia at the end of April and the beginning of May to meet with fans, sign books and generally make himself available and agreeable. If you've seen his graphic novels, the Sandman series made up of Punch, and Death: The High Cost of Living, or his children's books, you're aware of his vast spectrum of work, and should be suitably excited. Should be a fascinating Q&A for fans new and old alike.

DVD
Created by Glen A Larsen
Starring Lorne Greene, Herb Jefferson Jr, James Patrick Stuart, Kent McCord, Barry Van Dyke
Released March 3

For those revelling in the joy of the modern Battlestar Galactica, it's often easy to forget the less than stellar origins of its original incarnation. Glen A Larsen's 1978 show, whilst popular with younger viewers in its initial episodes, suffered from ever decreasing budgets and ratings until it was finally cancelled after 21 episodes. The journey from the twelve colonies to the mythical 'Earth' was tragically struck short, and fans clamoured at network heartlessness to no avail. But somehow, the show was reborn...
