Shane Abbess, Aussie director of Gabriel, has signed on the dotted line with producer Mark Gordon to direct the Sci Fi thriller, 'Source Code'.

Allegedly dealing with time travel, this is Abbess' first major Hollywood film after shifting to LA on the success of Gabriel.

Mark Gordon is a major Hollywood player, with credits on films like 10,000 BC, Speed, Saving Private Ryan, The Day After Tomorrow and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Species III writer Ben Ripley, is behind the script. Topher Grace (Spider-Man III) was at one stage cast in the lead role, but as yet remains unconfirmed. We'll hopefully be able to get a quote or two from Shane soon and see if we can't get a heads up on a few spoilers for local fans!

PSP
Rated M

Okay okay. You've heard of Kratos, the rather angry Spartan who's been kicking ancient ass for a while now for the Playstation people, both in terms of on-screen action and real world sales. His move to the PSP gives you a chance to slaughter fearsome enemies on the bus, on the train or, really creepily, waiting at the vet's. The chains in the title refers to both to Kratos' sexy flaming killing implements, and the fact that he's been sent by the Gods to wreak havoc on earth (and in the underworld) by removing all manner of ornery beastie. Hilarity ensues.

Dreamworks has just announced that they've bought the rights to the anime classic, Ghost in The Shell. Steven Spielberg hopes to make the film as a live action, 3D extravaganza.

Yattah!

Whilst some pundits are already putting the kybosh on the venture due to some similarities to the original Matrix, aficionados will tell you to not to fret. Ghost is in fact a quite different, with the machines reaching consciousness and getting up to no good, rather than the humans. The style alone puts them on different planets, and to be fair, The Matrix was in fact a stylistic derivative of the anime world inhabited by Ghost in the Shell. So shut up.

Christopher Judge, who plays the perennially popular Teal'c on Stargate, will be coming to Australia as part of a whirlwind tour. Large than life in person, a practical joker, and mortally afraid of polar bears, he'll be signing autographs and chatting with fans in Sydney on the 22nd and Melbourne on the 23rd of April.

He will be joined by Gary Graham, who played that ever-so-superior Vulcan ambassador Soval from Star Trek : Enterprise, and also Matt Sikes from classic flick, Alien Nation.

Co-recreator of Battlestar Galactica, Ronald D Moore, has been given the greenlight for a two hour backdoor pilot by Fox, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Called 'Virtuality,' it is set in on the Phaeton, Earth's first spaceship, on a 10 year journey to a distant star system. To keep the 12 crew-members from going completely bonkers during their decade in space, a virtual reality system is installed (think primitive Holodeck - as you would). Unforch, a bug gets into the system. Hilarity ensues, and the line between reality and fantasy gets smudged out.

Beowulf On Blu-Ray Review

BLU-RAY / DVD

Released on Blu-ray and DVD (Blu-ray reviewed)
Starring: Ray Winstone, Angelina Jolie, John Malkovich, Robin Wright Penn, Brendan Gleeson
Director: Robert Zemeckis
Rating: M

Beowulf on Blu-ray may not provide the ear-bleeding high octane impact of the 3D experience at Imax, but it's an impressive piece of entertainment for the home theatre crowd, and certainly a must-have for those who bend towards fantasy, action, adventure and CGI recreations of Angelina Jolie.

What would happened if the humans left earth, but left their robot running?

Pixar's latest looks to be, possibly, it's greatest. Set on a future earth where all the humans have left, this looks to be a touching tale of a robot and it's final, gargantuan 700 year long task. Throw in an EVE robot, and you have a little bit more. Hell, a lot more! This is one little robot, but one giant film.

If Pixar's track record is anything to go by, we're in safe hands for the animated flick of the year. It's coming to cinemas in Oz on September 28, but will be released in the US a few months earlier on June the 27th (dagnabbit!).

IMDb has just released this little snippet from our favourite Torchwood star, John Barrowman, who plays the erstwhile Captain Jack on the Dr Who spinoff.

Says IMDb:
"British actor John Barrowman is a big fan of using Botox injections to preserve his good looks - but urges other thespians not to have too many of the treatments. The 41-year-old Torchwood star admits he regularly receives the wrinkle-smoothing treatment as he is determined to slow down the ageing process. The injections - which freeze facial muscles - have been blamed for giving devotees a rigid, expressionless look. But Barrowman insists actors can still opt for Botox, but only in limited doses. He says, "I have Botox. The key is not to do the forehead. Men need forehead lines and doing the forehead makes you look like Nicole Kidman. Just do it around the eyes. I can still smile and look expressive. If something makes you feel good then you should do it." "

With Destination Truth bringing a very new flavour to SCI FI on Sunday nights, it's time to stop and consider what the show is all about, if you haven't already caught it.

In a sense, it's a reality show X-Files, with adventurer Josh Gates travelling all over the world (say, for example, Papua New Guinea) to discover the truth behind local legendary creatures, myths and superstitions. It's a fascinating insight into the way that the world of the supernatural is created in the human psyche, and mixed with some gung ho 'I want to believe' action from Josh and his team, is a lot of fun. Blurring the line between fact and fiction has never been so compelling. Make sure you take time out for Josh, on Sundays at 6.40pm.

Amanda Tapping, who plays Samantha Carter on Stargate: SG1 and now on Season 4 of Stargate: Atlantis, has also been burrowing away on her new show, Sanctuary, which was once the most expensive web-exclusive show ever produced, but has now been picked up by the SCI FI Channel US. Before she started working on that, though, she had to tie up a few loose ends on Stargate: The Ark of Truth.

The Ark of Truth is the DVD movie that ties up the final story threads of SG1's tenth season, it's joined by Continuum, the next SG DVD movie, that has fans slathering at the bit. The Ark of Truth is out now, and has recieved a tremendous reception. Check out our review (and our fan forum) for confirmation!
