Finally, the PS3 gets to show its chops with the Gran Turismo platform. The clamouring of GT fans has been so loud that the game is actually being released in 'prologue' form, a 'bare bones' form of the full game which will be released in a year's time. If you've never played a GT game, then you'd be forgiven for not knowing that it's generally considered the premiere driving game available on consoles, with an emphasis on the driving 'feel' of each specific car and gorgeous graphics. So what do you get in GT 5 Prologue? Let's have a quick squizz.
Go Speed Racer!
The Wachowski Brothers are back, and rumour has it, are back better than ever. Speed Racer is a remake of the classic Japanese anime (before it was called anime) that some of our older SF fans may remember growing up with early on Saturday mornings (or occasionally as part of the after school double with Marine Boy).
Brrrrrmmmm!
What makes this cartoon to live action transition so unique is that it's actually still a cartoon - all the crazy over the top acting, voices and colours, but with live actors. As you can see in the trailer, the CGI looks terrific, and the action scenes should be intense. Look out for the film in Oz in June.
This week has some fantastic premieres for SCI FI!
On Tuesday, April 1, the feature length documentary, The Sci Fi Boys, will be broadcast for the very first time on Australian TV in a SCI FI exclusive!
Follow Peter Jackson (yes, that Peter Jackson) as he takes us on a tour of the writers, film-makers and and special effects geniuses who have shaped the Science Fiction classics of today. Go back in time to see the annoying little kids who took their amateur movie-making too far, and inspired by Forrest J Ackerman's 'Famous Monsters' took on Hollywood and then took over Hollywood! Inspiring stuff and a must-see for Sci Fi buffs. Make sure you tune in on 10.30pm, this Tuesday night, April 1.
In the tradition of movie monsters, SCI FI has yet another premiere movie this weekend, with the Kevin Bacon horror hoe-down, Tremors.

When Shane Abbess managed to cobble together $90,000, he knew he didn't quite have the cash to make his dream of making an action packed fantasy film in Australia. But he kept on going, and with the extraordinary help of cast, crew, friends and small-time investors, he finally created the impossible. Now he is in Los Angeles, making the final rounds of US publicity for the DVD release of Gabriel and is in final deliberations for his next project - a bona fide studio picture.

Attention Heroes fans, both old and new! SCI FI is abuzz as the signed and framed and emininently wantable and haveable Heroes poster sits on its altar, quietly radiating coolness and a strange powerful pulsing sound a la the Ark of the Covenant.

FOUNDATION

When discussing the Golden Age of Science Fiction, there are three authors that you must always include - the recently deceased Arthur C. Clarke, Robert Heinlein and Isaac Asimov. When you think of Science Fiction, it owes something to these three. When Science Fiction is broken up into its various sub-genres, and across it's spectrum, from 'Hard' to 'Fantasy', one begins as 'scientist as author', the pipe-chomping bearded type with glasses who writes about what would happen if the latest advances in science were to become reality. Add mutton chops, and you have Isaac Asimov. His particular brand of Science Fiction eschewed aliens and focused on science, robots, and in the Foundation series, the concept of 'psychohistory'.

Edward Norton as the Incredible Hulk?
Yeah, why not? Following in the footsteps of even less likely super hero Michael Keaton as Batman, Mr Norton is set to thrill audiences as the green and angry Dr Bruce Banner. As the trailer suggests, another unlikely superhero movie star, Tim Roth appears as The Hulk's nemesis, the somewhat 'scarier than he sounds' Emil Blonsky. The brawny boondoggle awaits.
With Norton having input on the script, SF fans are eagre to see whether this restarting of the Hulk franchise will be accepted more willingly than Ang Lee's less than super duper attempt with Eric Bana. With a cast that includes Liv Tyler and William Hurt, and direction from Transporter 1 and 2's Louis Leterrier, anticipation teeters on a knife edge.
With last week seeing the introduction of Heroes, there seems to be plenty of positive feedback for our three episode introduction to the show.

Wow.
On days when we have time to reflect (and search the internet thoroughly, rather than just 'skimming' for four or five hours each night after work) it's great to actually find something of value, something that enriches us all and in our heart of hearts, let's us know we're on the right path.
Some of you may have heard about the 1-900 Nerd Girl kerfuffle. This is the appropriate response. This YouTube video will soon join the ranks of higher geekdom, alongside the lightsabre kid and 'maya-hee' guy. Evolution of Dance dude - watch out!
