INTERVIEWS

Wednesday, October 1

by Captain

Stan Lee is the one of the greatest, most prolific storytellers of all time. He is quite literally, the most famous comic book writer in history. It is without a doubt that the creator of Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, The Fantastic Four, The X-Men, Dr Strange, Thor and Daredevil (to name just SOME of his superheroes) is a living legend.

And we got to speak with him, face to face.

Stan was in Los Angeles to discuss his life, his loves, his company, POW! entertainment, and of course, the recent Marvel Movie explosion, including The Incredible Hulk and the surprising success of Iron Man.

Watchmen and 300 director Zack Snyder is working with Australian special effects studio Animal Logic on an animated adaptation of Kathryn Lasky's best selling children's fantasy series, Guardians of Ga'Hoole, which is centred on a band of owls on a post-apocalyptic Earth.

Snyder has also teamed up with Electronic Arts to create three new video games.

The new games will be produced at EA's Los Angeles facility, with EA owning the intellectual properties of any films made from them.

However, if EA decide to adapt them for cinema audiences, the movies will be produced by Snyder's own company, Cruel & Unusual Films.

World's Coolest Keyboard

GADGETS

Friday, September 26

by Captain

Sure the concept of a computer keyboard being 'cool' is something alien to many of us. Many of us may consider the idea of having anything more interesting than the slab of plastic that Dell sent to you as a complete and utter waste of time.

But some of us beg to differ.

Some of us embrace the geeky. And we loves the sexiness of this here keyboard. The Luxeed Dynamic Pixel LED Keyboard (or the LDP LED Keyboard, as we like to call it) comes with a fully customizable colour set.

Fire Up The Retro Rockets!

SPECIAL FEATURES

Thursday, September 25

by Captain

With the SCI FI Forum alive with talk of retro Sci Fi, it seemed only sweet and fitting to scour the net for good examples or trailers of some classic Sci Fi of yesteryear.

The thing that really strikes you when you look upon these clips is, firstly, just how tremendous genre theme music can be, and secondly (but more importantly) just how thin the line between Sci Fi TV themes and bass-slapping porn stylin' really is.

Wafer thin.

Enjoy the goodness, and for those who have never seen anything even remotely like this before, now you can begin to understand what all those fogies are going on about.

Chad Vader - Episode Vii - Revenge Of The Jedi

SPECIAL FEATURES

Wednesday, September 24

by Captain

The penultimate chapter in the Chad Vader saga will have everyone on the edge of their seats. Or at least guffumping into their coffees with unexpected splashes of mirth. Chad is desperate to get his job back as day manager, and with the help of his young apprentice 'Commander Wickstrom' he may just get it.

Although, as usual, it is the customers at the Empire market who must pay.

It looks like Chad might finally win the day, but first of course, he must deal with his nemesis - Clint. Which is going to be a little tricky because Clint is actually played by Matt Sloan, who is in fact, Chad Vader.

Wall-E Review

AT THE MOVIES

Tuesday, September 23

by Captain

Starring (the voices of) Ben Burtt, Sigourney Weaver, John Retzenberger, MacinTalk, and Fred Willard (in person).
Director Andrew Stanton
Released Sep 18
Rated G

Wall-E is a movie that makes you glad that either a) you have kids, b) you have access to kids or c) you permit yourself to be a kid.

The story is very simple, but the psychology is rather complex, which belies a rather straightforward and honest appeal to the child and the child within. The only way that you can walk out of Wall-E disappointed is if you have something rather dark and sad where your inner child used to be.

Amanda Tapping has posted on her website (amandatapping.com - duh) after the completion of photography of the first ever season of Sanctuary.

It could quite possibly be the next big Sci Fi milestone, with Stargate star director Martin Wood on board, and some pretty swish visuals doing the rounds.

For those of you unfamiliar with the former Stargate star's next big thing, (which started life as the world's most expensive made-for-the-web series) be sure to check her out (with her big brown hair - and her English accent!) as Dr Helen Magnus, at http://www.sanctuaryforall.com/.
