Anger Leads To The Darkside!

SPECIAL FEATURES

Monday, August 18

by Captain

Sometimes we come across something that's so awesome, it speaks for itself.

In this case, on so many subjects - from the depravity of middle management, the perversion of the English language and to the length and breadth of the American legal system.

The only thing that we could possibly add to this priceless newspaper cutting - if she kept him in the box, he'd be worth far more than any Toyota right now.

Enter Our Continuum Competition Now!

SPECIAL FEATURES

Monday, August 11

by Captain

There are some things that money can't buy (at least until they get onto eBay). One of those things, SCI FI has waiting for you, inside our triple-lock titanium-edged safe.

It's a piece of history - an original script, used in the production of Stargate Continuum, signed by Amanda Tapping, Ben Browder, Christopher Judge and Michael Shanks.

A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and it's only a click away.

Stargate Continuum is the first standalone film since the original Stargate feature that began the longest continuously running Sci Fi series in history. It's an epic saga of timetravel, invasion and personal sacrifice. It also marks what could be the beginning of a golden age of Stargate movies, returning to the cinema.

On our recent trip to The Bridge Studios, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, the World, we managed to sneak a little video spycam onto the set of Stargate!

Of course, by 'spycam' we mean the crappy video recorder function on our digital camera. So the quality's not the best. But for that, there's the essential flavour of 'truth'. Here now is the unvarnished reality of Stargate. And frankly - it's awesome!

The sets are as close to the 'reality' of the fantasy as you can imagine, with the obvious exception of say, cement floors and the occasional giant light poking through what should really be a space-worthy window.

George Lucas Finally Captured In Frozen Carbonite

SPECIAL FEATURES

Wednesday, July 30

by Captain

If you didn't manage to get to Japan's recent Star Wars Celebration (just going to put that out there) you may have missed out on seeing this once-in-a-lifetime sculpture. George Lucas encased in carbonite is one of the coolest things we've seen in a while - although of course, it opens up a philosophical can of worms.

It's hard not to walk down the 'this is what happens when you try to defend Jar Jar!' line. Or 'that's for fricking midichlorians!'. It's also hard not wonder if he's okay in there, and whether he'll have to suffer the chills and pains and blindness once he's out.

Star Wars Sand Castles From Portugal!

SPECIAL FEATURES

Tuesday, June 24

by Captain

Have you ever woken up on a Monday, or even a Tuesday, looked out the window at the rain and the wind and thought, holy hell, another boring day, off to work - why, oh why, baby Jesus, why would you do this to me?

Well, he does it to you to allow the karmic romper room for things like this. Without a constant diet of grey boring nothingness, something as delightful as this wouldn't be half as unexpected or as totally awesomely brilliant.

Trust the Portuguese to combine the unstoppable force of Star Wars with the moveable object that is sand in such a delightful way. Here's a couple of pics to prove that whilst he likes to dish out plenty of rough stuff, baby Jesus still has a twinkle in his eye.

Adopt Sci Fi!

SPECIAL FEATURES

Did you ever get in a room and start talking to someone about Sci Fi and then realise after a few minutes that you just weren't getting through? That somewhere, in between 'Teal'c is awesome' and '7 of 9' is smokin' they started looking at you in that blank way usually reserved for gravy stains on corduroy trousers or bits of gum on the bottom of one's shoe?

Its a shameful and shaming experience. But it doesn't have to happen.

Too many people in the wide world aren't 'down' with Sci Fi. Typically, these are people who lack imagination, courage, and a history of regular torment and teasing as a child as they tried to protect their twelve-sided dice from schoolyard bullies, or brought their headless Princess Leia doll tearfully back home. These are the people who don't have 'their own little world'.

Leonard Nimoy - The Ballad Of Bilbo Baggins

SPECIAL FEATURES

Wednesday, June 11

by Captain

Due to the overwhelming response to the beyond excellent Rocketman, as performed by William Shatner, it seemed only fair to give his right hand man, Leonard Nimoy, his chance to walk down our memory lanes.

It was a time of innocence, a time where Ralph Bakshi and Peter Jackson had barely thought about unleashing hobbitses onto the silver screen.

But Bilbo Baggins was big in the sixties. Hobbitses were huge. The graiffito 'Frodo Lives!' adorned the US subways as a call to arms for the disenfranchised. And Star Trek (the original) was still on air.

Sometimes the melding of late seventies special effects and porno music is so compelling it defies description. For many, this will be a trip down memory lane. for others, it will be yet another WTF moment on SCI FI PI.

It's one of our most requested golden oldies to put on air on SCI FI. It's the glory that is Martin Laundau and Barbara Bain, hurled across space in an orbitless moon by that evil genius Gerry (Thunderbirds) Anderson. The glamour of Science Fiction, 1975 style.

Enjoy!

Stargate:atlantis - A Day At The Office

SPECIAL FEATURES

Thursday, May 22

by Captain

Walking around Bright Lights Studios in Vancouver you quickly understand the massive scale of production that a major Sci Fi TV show requires to get to air. 9/10ths of the entire studio are currently turned over to Stargate:Atlantis, and with a combination of permanent and 'swing' sets on several massive sound stages, the sounds of activity are constant. One day an 'indoor' forest will exist next to a village, the next day a spaceship will spring into existence.

Sets are Just the Tip of the Iceberg
Of course, sets like The Daedalus, the Puddle Jumper, Atlantis Base and The 'Village' remain more or less intact. But even these sets remain active, providing surprising versatility for a show that's soon heading to its 100th episode.
