Popcorn Taxi TV Goes Live

NEWS

Monday, November 17

by Captain

The AFI-award winning film focus evenings held at Popcorn Taxi in Sydney and Melbourne can now be seen online at www.popcorntaxi.tv.

With its ongoing formula of 'see the films, meet their makers', Popcorn Taxi has introduced the very best of international filmmakers in person and over the phone to audiences in Sydney and Melbourne for the past decade. Which is pretty cool, since it all started with just two guys, Matt Wheeldon and Gary Doust, who had a big idea. Since then that idea has grown into an army of volunteers and core workers who put together some really cool events, with a focus on bringing local Australian talent to the fore.

Huge news for fans of the animated kingdom. Not only is David X Cohen super keen on getting the next Futurama film onto the big screen (and in 3D!) but the next Futurama direct to DVD film, Into the Wild Green Yonder, will feature none other than Seth McFarlane, the 'billion dollar kid' who voices much of The Family Guy, (most notably Peter, Stewie and Brian).

In a phone hook-up earlier today, Cohen revealed that McFarlane will be singing, and was said that McFarlane had a 'beautiful singing voice'.

Brand New Watchmen Details!

NEWS

Friday, November 7

by Captain

Yesterday Watchmen director Zack Snyder revealed around 25 minutes of Watchmen footage to a select group of industry types in Sydney.

To say that the crowd went away happy would be an understatement. The real shock is the reception of those who have no prior knowledge of Watchmen - overwhelmingly positive. It seems that the 'unfilmable' novel has broad appeal.

The opening sequence and credits were shown, the prison break out sequence and the full 'birth' of Doctor Manhattan, as well as a montage of previously unreleased footage.

And we're not just talking cheap horror movies and 'stunt' flicks - we're talking films from the biggest directors in the business, including Steven Speilberg, Peter Jackson and James Cameron.

Principal photography on one of 2009's most anticipated films, Terminator Salvation, has officially wrapped, with work know beginning on the mammoth task of post-production and special effects.

Luckily they've got till May of next year!

Director McG managed to take time out of his exhaustive schedule to blog his thoughts on what they've come up with - although as expected, not too many details have been revealed.

Although, in general terms, some clues point to a 'thumbs up' for the fourth movie in the Terminator franchise, with an emphasis on realism in the Terminator robots (having been built again by the original makers, Stan Winston) and of story and character.

Leading the 'can you believe it? No I cannot, but it is great news anyway', category for the week, Darren Aronofsky has confirmed that he will be directing the remake of quintessential 80's classic, Robocop.

In a strange and wonderful 'life mimics art' moment, the University of Queensland is planning on building a Eureka style town on the fringe of western Brisbane. The Courier Mail reports that the University is seeking approval from Brisbane City Council and the Queensland State Government to build a township for around 10,000 people - where up to 4500 elite scientists from around the globe can gather and invent things that probably and hopefully won't blow us all up, like that dastardly Large Hadron Collider and its plans for world domination via black hole replication.
