CAPTAIN'S BLOG

Sunday, March 9

One of the greats. This week. On SCI FI.

Total Recall.

Yesss!

Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as Douglas Quaid, knockabout construction worker of the future. He's got a great life, a great wife (Sharon Stone) and a hankering - to go to Mars.

But Mars is expensive, so why not have the virtual tour and go to Rekall, where you can have the memories of your perfect holiday installed into your brain?

But what happens when your dream holiday of venturing to Mars (as a secret agent) goes horribly horribly wrong, because, er, you already are a secret agent? What about that, huh!

The magnificence of March blazes on with even more cool stuff this week. As the countdown to Heroes on March 20 continues, this week sees the premiere of Season Seven of Buffy the Vampire Slayer on weekdays at 5.30pm, from Thursday the 6th.

Season Seven? The last season. The gangbuster season. It's filled with a veritable army of slayers, giant worms, Spike going crazy, Anya going vicious, Nathan Fillion from Serenity pops up, even Faith comes back! Quite the season, building up to one hell (literally) of a finale with some of Joss Whedon's best work and some of the top all time Buffy episodes. Buffy fans will flock to SCI FI every afternoon, and if you need to know why Buffy does have such passionate fans, a look in on this good stuff will help you understand.

Seriously, the most discerning of SCI FI Fans will be most delighted. More details to come...

Enterprise Triple Treat On Sunday Nights

CAPTAIN'S BLOG

Thursday, February 21

by Captain

If ever a show would benefit from 'three in a row', it's Star Trek: Enterprise. Starting from this Sunday night, Enterprise will be screened in order in three episode blocks, taking you through the entire saga.

Get to learn the character of the crew at the same time as they become acquainted with the reality of strange new worlds as they boldly go where no ex-Quantum Leap actor has gone before.

Certainly one of the more underrated shows, and criminally destroyed by programming on FTA, this is your chance to rediscover one of the pillars of the Star Trek community, in giant chunks. This week sees the first Season really take shape with eps 3,4 and 5 - Fight or Flight, Strange New World and Unexpected. You'll see how humans learn to make the tough choices in an unforgiving galaxy, weird rock creatures and Star Trek's first ever male pregnancy!

Well, the news is out - Heroes is coming to SCI FI. Next month sees the superdupersuperherofest make it's debut at its natural home, the SCI FI Channel, on March the 20th.

In the meantime, more and more changes are afoot. The SCI FI boardroom is chockablock full of meetings about programming and format ratio. That's right tech-heads, (and owners of expensive new tellies), the wide screen option is currently being considered and will be decided upon finally at the yearly general meeting. That's the official word, for now. For more official words, stay tuned!

With Valentine's Day coming up this Thursday the 14th, SCI FI has an especially romantic line-up this week for lovers - of quality Science Fiction.

When we said changes are afoot at SCI FI, we weren't kidding, and this week sees an entirely new line-up for Wednesday nights.

At 7.30pm it's the Halliwell sisters up to their necks in trouble again in Charmed, as Prue has to take on the identity of an assassin who is out to kill her and her sisters.

8.30pm is the all-new time slot for the sea-monster madness that is Surface, with an all new running beginning - well, at the beginning. Tonight, Episode One is loud and proud. If you haven't seen the show, it builds very nicely into a blend of jaw-dropping visuals, government conspiracies and, eventually, major disasters. Cool sea-monsters (and how they grow (and grow and grow)) are only part of the fun. Get in at the start and make Surface your Wednesday night special.

Whilst the music of Battlestar Galactica has always been some of the most emotional and often startling in Sci FI (say, for example, the solo drum and voice track from the original miniseries) this all seems like nothing compared to the reaction that we get from the piano piece that will be playing in Season 2's first episodes.

If you're not sure which particular haunting piece of piano playing we're talking about, check out the BSG S2 trailer on SCI FI's home page.

Well, what the hell is it?

CAPTAIN'S BLOG

Sunday, January 27

By any standards, this week is a big week on SCI FI.

On Tuesday the 29th, 7.35pm, the final episode of Afterworld will screen. The end of an epic journey in both storytelling and cross media entertainment will mark the final note in Russell's less than excellent adventure. For those who've become die-hard fans through daily updates (or even podcasts) it'll be huge.

On Wednesday the 30th, 10.30pm, it's the SCI FI premiere of Battlestar Galactica Season 2. Those who have been crying, nay, screaming, out for more Battlestar Galactica can finally rejoice in more episodes. With recent announcements that BSG will only run 4 Seasons in entirety (proving, once and for all, that there is no God, for a universe with a benevolent supreme being would surely have at least 11 seasons of BSG (and SG1!)), it means that the BSG viewing process must, for hardcore fans, be tuned to the 'savouring' frequency. And of course we know we won't have to wait that long to see if they get to Earth or not. And if Earth is merely populated by Cylons. But I digress.
