CAPTAIN'S BLOG

Sunday, July 20

by Captain

The many Star Treks have as many different flavours as there are in your average well stocked Gelato Bar. When it finally comes to the hazelnut, or perhaps the pistachio of Sci Fi, you'll be wanting the faraway adventures of Star Trek Voyager. If you've never been able to get into it, or have missed too many episodes, July 2008 marks a special time for you, dear SCI FI fan.

Voyager is coming home.

From this Tuesday the 22nd, every weekday will screen the Star Trek Voyager journey, at midday and at 6.30pm, starting with the very first Voyager episode of all, Caretaker Part 1, this Wednesday, and Caretaker Part 2, on Thursday. See how the crew of Voyager ended up 75,000 light years from home, stuck in the suburbs of the Delta Quadrant. Find out what Captain Janeway used to do with her hair, and what got Tom Paris stuck in a penal colony in New Zealand!

CAPTAIN'S BLOG

Wednesday, July 16

by Captain

If you're at a bit of a loose end on Wednesday night, why not pop in to our Forum for a quick look around and a chat with other SCI FI-minded folk?

8.30pm - 10.30pm is the official unofficial time for people to get together and say what's what's about anything at all.

This week the general discussion topic will start off SCI FI MOVIES, with The Dark Knight, X-Files: I Want To Believe and Stargate: Continuum set to be the stars of the show. Start your own thread, or join in, or just watch as the geek-level peels off the Warp factors as we reach a crescendo of knowledge hitherto unimagined.

CAPTAIN'S BLOG

Sunday, July 13

by Captain

The joy of July's SCI FI Originals just keep on coming this week with some big names and a some big ideas - but first up this Monday is a bit of Star Trek Midnight Madness - the classic fun that is Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

It's actually on at 12.10 am on Tuesday morning, but hey - this kind of Star Trek fun is the kind of thing you stay up for! With Kirk and McCoy stuck in a Klingon death camp and a plot to destabilize a newfound peace between The Federation and the Klingon Empire - that involves a young and spunky Kim Cattrall, you really can't afford to miss out. Certainly not with Shakespeare-quoting Klingons, sexy shape-shifting aliens and 'Captain' Sulu yelling lines like "then fly her apart, then!"

Stargate Season 3 Competition!

CAPTAIN'S BLOG

Saturday, July 12

"Crap!"

As John Shepperd would say when faced with a Wraith Hive ship. It's also what one would say should one miss out on the opportunity to grab a hold of one of ten (10) Season 3 Stargate: Atlantis box sets currently up for grabs in our awesome Stargate: Atlantis competition!

To enter, just click on WIN in our Navbar and answer the simple question - who is your favourite Stargate: Atlantis character, and why?

It is perfectly acceptable to say, for example, "McKay, because he pronounces it 'zed' and not 'zee' pee emm." Or, you may wish to offer a pithy comment about Ronon and his big gun. It's entirely up to you...

Visit The Sci Fi Forum Tonight!

CAPTAIN'S BLOG

Wednesday, July 9

by Captain

For all those who have newly signed up on our Forum, why not 'pop in' tonight for a bit of a digital 'meet and greet'?

We'll be setting up a HELLO thread in GENERAL DISCUSSION, for anyone who wants to get acquainted with other SCI FI buffs and some of our more regular Forum posters.

It's a good chance to make connections, find out some info on shows you love and perhaps share some of those classic Sci Fi moments - or even some deep dark Sci Fi secrets!

The SCI FI Forum has all sorts of threads, covering all our shows, new movies and it even gets a bit deep and meaningful when discussions turn to the future of genetic engineering or the meaning of 'life, the universe and everything' (apparently, still 42!).

CAPTAIN'S BLOG

Sunday, July 6

by Captain

This week seems to be more than just business (if you could ever call it that) as usual at the SCI FI Channel. We're unleashing yet another pair of the monstacular SCI FI Originals on an unsuspecting Australian public, from the very depths of the earth to the wide spaces of the open air. It's all rather entomological (perhaps, even a bit Them! inspired) this July week on SCI FI.

To paraphrase George Orwell - six legs good, two legs - bad luck!

Tuesday night (at 10.20pm) the action starts with the finest gigantic beetles that $2.50 can buy! Caved In tells the tale of a viciously over-insectoided Swiss salt mine that claimed its first victims in 1948, and now, 50 years later, the bugs are back for more when Christopher Atkins (The Blue Lagoon) and Star Trek's Colm Meaney join in the fun. Gigantic subterranean stag beetles versus family of adventurous humans? Don't event think about missing it!

CAPTAIN'S BLOG

Sunday, June 29

by Captain

This week sees the old and the new and the new old and the old new, which is pretty cool, (and slightly bizarre) but what you'd expect, from SCI FI.

Once again our gentle viewers must endure the onslaught of the weird and wonderful world of SCI FI originals, as they continue their delightful dance across our screens. This week continues with Boo, screening on Tuesday night at 10.30pm and Wednesday at 1pm.

Boo has a great premise - a patient is trying to escape a mental institution - but he's already the dead! It's a problem, to be sure, and won't be easily resolved. Get ready for keerraaazzy fun!

CAPTAIN'S BLOG

Sunday, June 22

Joyous June finishes off this week with yet another SCI FI premiere - and this time, it's personal.

Well, personal, if your name happens to be Jamie Summers.

And no, Jamie is not some new kind of British Chef. Jamie is a woman. The Bionic Woman.

This Friday night at 8.30pm, it's going to be a whole new take on the classic 70's series that starred Lindsay Wagner. A spinoff of the Bionic Man, it gave the world it's first 'fembots'.

But produced by David Eick, of Battlestar Galactica fame, the formula has been given a bit of sprucing up.

The SCI FI Original Movies are here!

This week sees the genius that is Cemetery Gates hit the airwaves as SCI FI unleashes a forbidden planet of movies created specifically for the SCI FI Channel.

A pair of stoner eco-activists liberate an ill-tempered mutated Tasmanian Devil (no lasers on its forehead though) from a lab and release it near a woodland cemetery – the same cemetery where a group of college students are making a film - and the son of the mad scientist who grew up with the previously un-mutated creature as a pet is helping out! Cemetery Gates (2006) stars Reggie Bannister, Peter Stickles and Aime Wolf in a goretastic horror comedy that's not to be missed by schlock connoisseurs.

CAPTAIN'S BLOG

Sunday, June 1

This month shall hitherto be known as Joyous June on SCI FI Australia, as a slew of excellent programming (and some nifty new extras on our website) makes this Winter start off with warm fuzzy feelings that go all the way down to your toes.

So curl up on the couch, slip into your (ladies please, enough's enough) indoor-only Ugg boots, place the remote on 132 and then shove it gently between some cushions.

SCI FI is your home now. Welcome.

Joyous June kicks off with a heck of a week. Wednesday sees the return of Medium (everyone's favourite not quite 'sci fi' Sci Fi show) that has Patricia Arquette once more attempting to bridge that rather tricky gap between the dead, the living, and criminal behaviour. Season 2 premieres on Wednesday at 8.30pm.
