From the opening sweeping mix of the Stargate theme and an alien alpine landscape, you can tell that The Ark of Truth is bigger than the usual SG1 episodes. For those of us who have waited so long since the curtailed completion of Season 10, there's a Lord of the Rings grandeur to the opening titles, a mix of great expectation and relief. It's finally here.

For those revelling in the joy of the modern Battlestar Galactica, it's often easy to forget the less than stellar origins of its original incarnation. Glen A Larsen's 1978 show, whilst popular with younger viewers in its initial episodes, suffered from ever decreasing budgets and ratings until it was finally cancelled after 21 episodes. The journey from the twelve colonies to the mythical 'Earth' was tragically struck short, and fans clamoured at network heartlessness to no avail. But somehow, the show was reborn...

It's always a time for celebration when a cancelled Sci Fi show (of excellent quality) re-emerges from the netherworld of cancellation and returns for our viewing pleasure. Futurama, despite being co-created by Matt Groening, was always the sickly step-child in The Simpsons' family, but had a hugely loyal fan-base who responded to the innest of in-jokes that truly allowed the geek to be unleashed.

Famously said to be based on Stephen King's story, The Lawnmower Man is in actual fact NOT based on Stephen King's story (the only thing vaguely similar is a lawnmower in the plot and the title). King actually sued the film makers, who lost twice to him in court. As a result the trailer no longer has 'from the imagination of Stephen King' in it's voice-over.

Amime fits into a small, very particular niche in the Sci Fi world, but when it's accepted by the fold, there's usually a very good reason.
Death Note is one of the classic Manga stories that has made the trip from Japanese back-to-front comics (yes, Manga) to anime to live action. Both the anime TV series and the live action versions (in two movies) are now available from Madman.
With the February 7 release of the first complete Season of the Doctor Who spinoff, Torchwood, in Oz, we've dug up some fun facts for uber-geekoids to pore over as they hurl themselves into its sheer Welshness.
If you haven't experienced the new world of Doctor Who and Torchwood yet, it has far higher production values than the venerable Doctor Who series, more complex character roles and some tremendous writing. A healthy injection into the Sci Fi world and well worth a look.
Harder, grittier and darker than the new Doctor Who, Torchwood has garnered a loyal following and points to a healthy Science Fiction culture in the UK, outside of the US and Canada. Who knows, perhaps even, one day, maybe, Australia will make a Science Fiction series that takes over the world.

Created from the bones of a Philip K.Dick short story, The Golden Man, Next is the story of Cris Johnson (Nic Cage), ostensibly a two-bit magician in Las Vegas. Secretly however, he is hiding in plain sight - he has the magical ability to see into the future - but only two minutes into the future, and only two minutes into his own future.
Stardust will be out on DVD and HD DVD on January 24.
Neil Gaiman's tale, translated to the big screen by director Matthew Vaughn is a tongue in cheek fantasy tale with Claire Danes as a fallen star, Rupert Everett as a dead Prince and Robert De Niro as a pirate captain with a secret er, 'softer' side.

Blue Harvest, the Family Guy's take on the original Star Wars movie, will be available on DVD in Oz on February the 6th. In the meantime, here's the hilarious trailer for the DVD that will have you slathering at the mouth (get a napkin).

Feb 6 is the official release date for possibly one of the greatest genre mishmash crossovers in SCI FI DVD history. Seth MacFarlane's iconic Family Guy series, well known for its movie references and in particular Star Wars jokes, has gone the whole hog and produced an hour long Star Wars episode entitled Blue Harvest.
Hardcore Star Wars fans will be able to tell you that Blue Harvest was the fake name used by George Lucas to throw journos off the scent whilst shooting Revenge, no hang on, Return of the Jedi.
