SCOOP! Jane Badler Confirms First Hand That She is in V Season 2
News Saturday, August 7 by Captain
Recent unconfirmed rumours surfacing from the V gang's appearance at Comic-Con have pointed to Jane Badler's involvement in the upcoming second season of V.
Happily for fans of the new and old series, we can confirm that one of Sci Fi's great villains will return - after speaking directly with Jane herself. She says "Yes, absolutely" so, there you have it - straight from the lizard's mouth, so to speak, says Jane: "I am off on Tuesday for a long stint".
This morning's email confirmation will not come as a huge shock to Melbourne Sci Fi fans who were in the audience at ACMI's evening of Sci Fi Remakes and Spinoffs Thursday a week ago, who were teased with Jane's involvement - at the time, she could not confirm as the final nod from producers had not been given.
Now she can.
It's the final culmination of two years of playing 'footsie' with the new V team, as Jane's name had come up the instant the new V series went into serious production.
Speaking with Sci Fi Pi, Jane said that she in fact had to audition - sending a tape from Melbourne to Los Angeles to confirm to producers and network executives that she, in a nutshell, still 'had it'.
Meeting her in person confirms that she definitely does. This will bring an added twist to the upcoming season of V and will invite a new swathe of fans to a show that seems on the cusp of greatness.
Jane will play Diana, the mother of Anna, who has been imprisoned in a Vistor homeworld habitat on one of the V ships.
V Executive Producer Scott Rosenbaum revealed at this year's Comic-Con that V was casting Anna's mother, who is named Diana.
"We're going to cast the best actor and she is certainly someone we're thinking about," said Rosenbaum. "I don't know if she'll be Anna's mother, but I'd like to have her be in the show this season."
The best actor, obviously, to play Diana in V, was Jane Badler.
You can run, little furry mammals, but you cannot hide.
Jane has lived in Australia since 1988, is an accomplished theatre actor and cabaret singer after having been named as best Sci Fi villain, ever, by TV critics, after her performance as Diana in V. Her first album, The Devil Has My Double, was released in 2008. She is currently working on a follow up, and can be seen on Australian TV in Neighbours as a new, rather bitchy character, named 'Diana'.
We're looking forward to her bringing her big guns to bear on Morena Baccarin, who plays Anna on the new V, the revised template of Diana from the original. Should be great fun.
We're looking forward to having a good old natter about all things V, and more, with Jane when she gets back. Keep your eyes peeled for that one. In the meantime, you can follow her on Twitter, which she has just joined, under the name @janebadler.
