Inception: It's All Real. The Most Amazing Behind The Scenes YOU WILL EVER SEE!

News Friday, July 23 by Captain

The story behind Inception is more impressive than the movie itself.

Shooting in six countries, with a $200 million dollar budget, filmed on gigantic sets that create a movie filled with moments that are truly amazing. They look like state-of-the-art computer graphics effects, but they are in fact, real.

Yes. You read that correctly. All that stuff, that crazy, impossible dream stuff, happened in 'reality'.

Christopher Nolan did in fact bring it, old school. Only the barest minimum of CGI for him, thanks. You will NOT believe which moments are 'in camera'.

It is simply astonishing. In fact, pretty much EVERYTHING that blew your mind in the movie was a practical effect.*

This is going to get a bit spoilery, (about what happens in the movie, but not why it happens), so if you don't want to know anything at all, look away. Look away NOW!

None of this is CGI. None of it.

We thought we were impressed by the movie before. Now we are just flabbergasted.

Just some of the awesomeness that you will see this 12 minute long, behind-the-scenes special:

Exploding Paris
No. That wasn't CGI when Ariadne's first attempt at dream architecture went kaput. That was hundreds of gas-powered explosions ripping up the streets, stalls and cars of Paris. Holy heck! Yes. It was REAL. They used super fast cameras to create the effect that we all thought was CGI. You have to see it to believe it.

Gravity versus Arthur
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, not a stunt double, was fighting and jumping in a giant, rotating hotel hallway. None of that was CGI. He is frickin' Spider-Man.

The First Kick
The Kick from the first dream, finished off by the 'bath'. An entire set was drenched with a gigantic mountain of water.

The Tilting Glass
Remember that intriguing moment from the trailer, when the water in the glass tilted, as though the entire world had shifted on its axis? It did. A gigantic set, that encompassed the whole bar where Fischer and Cobb discuss the fact they're in a dream, was tilted on massive hydraulic motors. Have to LOVE the fact that the close up was used when an entire set was being shifted on its axis.

The Snow Fortress
What a great visual that was in the film, huh? Looked pretty epic, that fantasy fortress in some crazy, over-the-top mountain range. ALL REAL. Built to scale. In the Canadian mountains. Shot in a blizzard. Then BLOWN TO HELL!

We've also got interviews with everyone, including Christopher Nolan and Leonardo DiCaprio. Sir Michael Caine pops in, too.

We liked the movie, but after watching this behind the scenes epic, we think we like this even more!

*If you know how 2001: A Space Odyssey was made, (with its gigantic rotating set) this will not come as a huge surprise, but you'll still be impressed. We guarantee it.

I figured that they had a rotating set, and yes, I did see 2001: A Space Odyssey. However, even that wasn't the first time I'd seen a rotating set. There's this famous clip of Fred Astaire dancing on the walls and ceiling of a room, absolutely mind-blowing! And I must say that even if you know how its done, that makes it even more amazing (at least to me) since they didn't take the "easy" route and CGI the thing to death.
