Tron Legacy Update

A brand new Tron Legacy trailer will be hitting the internets and theatres in a few days, and a lucky few in the US were given a preview. They were also given a twenty minute question and answer session with the film's director, Joseph Kosinski.

From all accounts, the footage is bowel-trembling.

We do have some information for you, direct (well, indirectly) from the horse's mouth, as several erstwhile internet film-types were in attendance and have reported on what Kosinski revealed to the fans in attendance.

The next few lines will be mildly spoilerish, but will also clear up many of the major questions you might have had if you're a fan of the original and want to know about Flynn, Dillinger and Tron coming back to the sequel after so many years.

First up, yes, Tron is in it. Duh. Also light cycles. No word on cool cyber frisbees, though.

The music of Daft Punk is in the movie "their music is all over it". They may even be IN the movie.

Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon) plays a character who runs a nightclub in the Tron universe called Castor. This of course means that the original computer world MCP (Master Control Program) has been superceded by a new virtual world on a new server. It also means that this interior world is far more complex than that of the original film.

A new nemesis replaces Sark/Dillinger (originally played by David Warner). It will by Clu, a CGI version of Jeff Bridges - an exact replica of Kevin Flynn from 1985. He is 'the next level of artificial intelligence'.

Five action sequences from Tron Legacy will be shown in 1.7:1 aspect ratio, exclusively in IMAX Theatres.

Tron Legacy should be releasing in Oz on December 16th 2010.
