Happy International Talk Like William Shatner Day!

News Monday, March 22 by Captain

Last year, famous voice artist Maurice LaMarche (Futurama, The Simpsons and the legendary Brain in Pinky and the Brain) decided that William Shatner's birthday would hence be known as 'International Talk Like William Shatner Day'.

The... halted. Delivery. Pausing at all. The Wrong.

Places.

Are just some of the integral facets. To. The art of... speaking like William. Shatner.

But to describe it in print is a mere ghostly reminder of the true art shared by LaMarche and the world's best Shatnerator, actor, comedian and chat-show host, Kevin Pollack.

It's an increasing trend in modern culture - the Sci Fi based 'day'. Everyone knows Towel Day, of course, celebrating the work and like of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy creator, Douglas Adams. May the 4th, is of course, Star Wars Day, where you can attempt to say 'May the 4th be with you' with a straight face. There is even a campaign to get September 8 to be known as Star Trek day, since this was the date the original series first aired on television.

For geeks in the US, they've just celebrated Pi day on the 14th of March, which is translated as 3/14 or 3.14. Technically however, the Australian version of Pi Day is the more accurate, that is, the 22nd of July, or 22/7. So we'll celebrate our own mathematically correct Pi Day in a few months, thanks for asking.

In the meantime, we've got two great videos - last year's introductory video from LaMarche who explains the ins and outs of speaking like The Shat, and this year's one, which has Kevin Pollack and Maurice La Marche reading out Shatner's lines from the pilot of 'Shit My Dad Says', in which Shatner will soon be starring. It's all rather amusing, both a vicious parody and a fond celebration of Mr Shatner's unique vocal stylings.

Not surprisingly, the second one is a bit sweary. So kids, you can't watch it. The first one is fine though, although it does include footage of traffic in Los Angeles, which may be upsetting to some viewers.

Oh - and yes, March 22 really, really is Mr Shatner's birthday. He will be 79 this year! Looking pretty good for 79, Bill.

Is having an eleven year old girl running around calling people c*& acceptable? Or gob-smackinly hilarious?

Is Nic Cage a genius, or insane?

Is Mark Strong now the best bad guy actor in film history?

You be the judge. Make the call.
