The Week in Geek Issue #1

Welcome readers!

What’s this? I hear you think. We’re a weekly newsletter that does our best to keep you up to date with what’s going on in the worlds of sci fi, fantasy and geekdom in general.

Now then, onto business!

First off: I’m hoping you can help me. You see, there’s something that’s been puzzling me all week. Just why did SyFy want to make a reality show with Kristen ( 3rd Rock from the Sun) Johnson? Idea’s anyone?

Meanwhile, SyFy are staying busy – they’re launching a new movie series of updated fairy tales. Farscape creator Rockne S O’Bannon has teased about new Farscape comics and director Joe Johnston has said Captain America will kick off in the 1940’s. Cap himself should be known in the next fortnight.

Doctor Who writer Phil Ford has written a sci fi game show for the BBC titled, Mission 2110, Sir Patrick Stewart is up for appearing in the next Star Trek film and Sam Raimi’s next project is said to be pulp crime fighter The Shadow. So, do you think he knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?

The Razzie nominations have been announced as have the Oscars , but who cares about them? There’s clips from Smallville: Absolute Justice which premieres tonight in the US, 4 minutes of video from Thor: Tales from Asgard while British tabloids claim Zac Efron is the new Spider-Man. and others say that Percy Jackson’s Logan Lerman is in talks for the part.

There’s the first trailer forThe Losers and a short teaser for animated animated zombie film A.D. - the production company are seeking funds to make a full length film, so send some cash if you can!

There’s clips fromCaprica, talk that Marvel will resurrect Jean Grey and the new latest Kick Ass trailer – this one’s pretty heavy, so if you’re at work use headphones or wait till everyone’s left the office ok?

Ryan Reynolds talks daily with the Deadpoolwriters and DC Comics might commission a sequel to Watchmen... Ohhhh, that can’t be good…

The Dracula prequel that Universal wants Sam Worthington to star in might shoot in Sydney while supernatural roommate drama Being Human has a third season!

Judge Dredd’s creator John Wagner has said the new film won’t be as bad as the first one. Yep, that won’t be hard… There’s a collection of deleted scenes from Zombieland that give us more rules to live by and the first look at Jeff Bridges in Tron Legacy.

Lastly, Zachary Quinto talks about his cameo in Star Trek:Online , we have 7 clips from The Wolfman and Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau will voice a Mandalorian commander in The Clone Wars!

Quote of the Week:
Crichton: “Have we sent the ‘don’t shoot us we’re pathetic’ transmission yet?”
Farscape – Out of their Minds

Be seeing you…

Best Sci Fi Death Ever

Out of any show or series, most spectacular, ridiculous, humorous or - heartrending. Spock's death in Wrath of Khan is obviously an excellent starting point.
