Sony Is Giving Us 3D - in JULY!
News Friday, February 26 by Captain
In a special presentation earlier this week, Sony announced their new line of BRAVIA TVs.
The big news - 3D. The even bigger news - it's coming this year. The even bigger news - Sony are going hard at it. Not just TVs but the PS3, cameras and Sony laptops will ALL have 3D capability.
Sony Australia’s deputy general manager of consumer products division, Toby Barbour, said the company’s line-up of 3D TVs would arrive in Australia in July. So far, there is only one fully integrated 3D model planned, the LX900. Two other models, the HX800 and 900, can display 3D with an optional accessory.
“This year represents the sunrise of 3D technology in Australia,” claimed Barbour. “At the cusp of becoming a reality in homes in Australia, we will deliver our BRAVIA 3D TVs in July when the full 3D story can be realised – combining hardware and content.”
There will be a new line up of non 3D BRAVIA TVs, available throughout March and April. No pricing as yet is available.
Barbour also announced that Sony would partner with Yahoo7!, SBS and Billabong to stream local content directly to its new range of TVs enabled for internet video (IPTV) for free. No separate set-top box will be required. Calling the service as “catch-up TV”, Barbour said it would take only ten seconds to buffer before playing.
Sony has signed content deals with other global players (inlcuding YouTube and Wired), but a notable absence from the streaming service was the ABC, whose streaming iView is currently available on the PS3.
The IPTV streaming service will be available from next month.
