The Keys to The Kingdom

In an Australian TV premiere, SCI FI presents Stephen King's Kingdom Hospital. Premiering Thursday the 7th of January, at 8.30pm!

Stephen King is one freaky guy. He spends his days (and nights) delving into the bowels of hell, digging up chewy bits and then spitting it out onto a world eager for more. He is the world’s agreed upon master of horror, and with recent outings like Cell has proven he is still just as creepy, scary and horrifiyingly relevant as ever.

One of the more interesting tidbits in a long career that stretches all the way back to his first novel, Carrie, is that out of all the novels and films and made for tv films, he’s only ever been involved in one TV series – the thirteen part Kingdom Hospital.

Sir Patrick Stewart Visiting Australia!

Yes. It is true. Come the end of January, you could meet Jean-Luc Picard. And Professor Charles Xavier. Or, if you're a total geek, Leondegrance from Excalibur! Haven't seen it? See it, it's both tops and awesome.

Culture Shock Events will be hosting, 'Captain John-Luc Picard' from Star Trek: The Next Generation, for an event in late January called OzTrek 2.

OzTrek2 will be held on the 30th January in Melbourne (First Contact Conventions) and on the 31st January in Sydney. This will only be Patrick's second appearance in Australia, and his first as a knight of the realm. Sir Patrick has agreed to two very special requests for OzTrek 2 - Patrick has agreed to do a VIP function and also a limited number of photo opportunities, two things he has not done often before at events.

How Futuristic Movie Computer Readouts Are Made

Ever Wondered About Those Futuristic Computer Graphics In Sci Fi Movies?

You know, the ones on those semi-transparent computer terminals that just look so unbelievably awesome, yet you search the internet for some kind of representation and you cannot find it anywhere, so you just have to stick with some modding software you got from a website that gives you something that's okay, but not brilliant. You get all angsty, realising you don't have the coolest computer GUI on the planet. You play more Warcraft than is healthy, because this world is no longer pleasing to you.

Firefly Q & A With Tim Minear and Jane Espenson

Firefly remains something beyond a cult show to its fans. Browncoats see Joss Whedon's mix of 'space' and 'cow' as one of the few brief moments where the human imagination was allowed to soar on TV. Cruelly cancelled after less than a season, it still pops up whenever a true Sci Fi geek is asked about their top Sci Fi shows of all time.

At the recent Serenity Con in Los Angeles (yes, they have Serenity Cons) Writer Jane Espenson and the showrunner, Tim Minear, sat down and had a good old chat with fans. If you've ever wanted to delve a little bit deeper into the Firefly phenomenon, or are an aspiring scriptwriter and want to get a few tips, here's your chance!

What's on this Week Dec 28 - Jan 3

What's on this week? 2010! That's what's on this week!

To celebrate, Sci Fi is ushering a new decade in with style, with a slew of Summer Sci Fi Movies.

We've also got a host of cool shows that you'll want to see - Early Edition, Farscape, The X-Files, and the stylishly retro and oh so awesome The Six Million Dollar Man and Knight Rider!

In the hiatus between Christmas and New Year's SCI FI is unleashing a cunning plan - one groovy Sci Fi movie, every day, until 2009 gives way to 2010.

Spike is in Caprica

With Battlestar Galactica full box sets and Blu-rays a delight this Christmas, and The Plan still a fresh memory, it's good to look ahead and know that the universe of BSG is still alive with the upcoming Caprica, which will get its US debut on Jan 22.

Set 50 years before the first Human Cylon War, the series traces two familes, and the rise of the Cylons. But you probably already knew that. What you might not have known was that James Marsters, famous for his role as Spike on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, will be in it.

Celebrate 2009 with The Star Wars Holiday Special

It's amazing just how many respond (in so many ways) to this little slice of Sci Fi heaven. That's right, it's on the intertubes.

The Star Wars Holiday Special.

Legendary for providing one of the most singular Star Wars experience in history, this made-for-TV 1978 special starred Bea Arthur (from the Golden Girls), Diahann Carroll, Art Carney, Jefferson Airplane (before they were Starship) and Harvey Korman. It also infamously featured Chewbacca's family, waiting for him to turn up for his 'Life Day' celebration on Kashyyk. Chewbacca's wife is named Malla - and he has two sons - Itchy, and Lumpy. No, that's not a typo.

Merry Sci Fi Christmas!

'Tis the season to be geeky!

Having a break from unwrapping presents, drinking champagne/eggnog/naughty coffee/tea-laced-with-bourbon/something nice and non-threatening or eating?

Here's a collection of random images we borrowed from the internet that make the case that Season Greetings and Seasons Geekings are one and the same thing. Share the joy of whatever spectrum of religion you're from with family and/or friends. Thanks for visiting us from time to time and sharing in the Sci Fi Pi community. It's been quite a 2009, to be sure.

Push DVD/BD Review

If you're looking for a movie that blends Hong Kong grunge with X-Men style powers, this is your holy grail.

An edgy, gritty style of filmmaking gives a real 'in your face' texture to a story more similar, perhaps, to fans of Firestarter, than to fans of X-Men, although in this case, the execution of the action takes a leaf form its setting and gives it a Hong Kong style of fight choreography and action-plus action.

It seems like the kind of thing that you'd agree to on a drunken film-fuelled New Year's Eve. The kind of thing that sounds great, but you'd never actually attempt.

No one has the kind of stamina it takes to actively seek out the worst movie ever made, and then watch the very worst candidates one day at a time for an entire year. Surely?

It's something that Michael Adams did. The Australian-based film critic, reviews editor at Empire Magazine, one time host of the SBS Movie Show and now King of All That Is Craptacular has written a book that outlines this stunning achievement in pop-culture self flagellation. For fans of bad movies, 'Showgirls, Teen Wolves, and Astro Zombies: A Film Critic's Year-Long Quest to Find the Worst Movie Ever Made' is now the holy grail of just what to look out for when searching for the ultimate, eyeball-gouging adventure.
