Surrogates Review

These aren't the droids you're looking for.

Starring Bruce Willis, Radha Mitchell, Ving Rhames
Directed by Jonathan Mostow
Rated M
Out Sep 24

Director Jonathan Mostow continues his track record of 'not quite' action adventurers with Surrogates, picking up where U-571 and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines left off. What looks to have all the elements of an excellent Sci Fi film, including human alienation, super-human robots and Bruce Willis, lacks the lifeblood, or in this case, the hydraulic fluid, pumping through its veins, so instead of a worthy look at ourselves we get a meaningless roller coaster ride. Which is fine. Sort of.

Next Resident Evil Film Underway

Bloodydisgusting.com reports that production has officially begin in Toronto, Canada for Screen Gems and Constantin's Resident Evil: Afterlife, which is to be directed by Paul W.S. Anderson from his own screenplay. The international release it confirms that Milla Jovovich will return as Alice, with Ali Larter returning as Claire Redfield and Spencer Locke (Monster House) as K-Mart. Boris Kodjoe, Wentworth Miller, Kim Coates (Silent Hill, Skinwalkers) and Shawn Roberts (Diary of the Dead, Skinwalkers) also join the cast. The fourth installment is to be released in 3D on August 27, 2010.

A Nightmare On Elm St Trailer

With remake fever currently gripping Hollywood like never before, it seems only fitting that the A Nightmare on Elm Street trailer comes out. For those who grew up with Heather Langenkamp and the orginal, it may be considered a freakish still birth. For those who don't know Wes Craven's seminal piece, a look into one of the few newly created monsters in our modern day screamatoria. THe part of Freddy Krueger will not be played by Freddy Englund, who created the character way back in 1984, but will be played by Jackie Earle Hailey, who most recently played Rorschach in Watchmen. The film won't be released until April of 2010, so there's pletny of time to go back and see just why the original was so good.

Jabra HALO Headphones Reviewed

They're thin, light and sexy. Have Jabra finally cracked 'cool'?

Headphones - they're basically impossible for the layman to understand. Plug goes in, sound comes out. More expensive, better sound. That's about it.

Mention noise cancelling and it sounds great, but headphone pros will tell you that when it comes to cutting out noise, a pair of plugs that go right in the ear (as opposed to buds that sit in them) are far better than all the super expensive, battery powered noise cancelling headphones that push out a wave of interference to block out ambient noise.

Something, Something, Something Darkside Coming to Blu-ray

Family Guy Writers Do Trivia Track.

In a super-exclusive sneak peak at some of Fox's upcoming Blu-ray titles in Los Angeles (reporters had to sign non disclosure agreements concerning a particular title that looks particularly exciting) a snippet of the upcoming Something, Something Darkside was shown.

For fans of Family Guy, you'll know that this is the sequel to their hour long 'homage' to Star Wars - Blue Harvest. This of course, is their version of The Empire Strikes Back, and will release in the Oz on the 22nd of December, simultaneously on DVD and BD.

Get Iain M Banks Latest Novel - for free!

If you know about Scottish literary wizz Iain M Banks, or have read our introduction and acted on it, then the news that not only is his latest novel, Transition, now available for sale in Australia, but available as a free podcast on iTunes will come as a breath of delightfully twisted air.

The new novel stands astride his two personae - when publishing with the M in his name (for Menzies) he puts out straight (and brilliant) Sci Fi. Without it, he produces fairly twisted 'straight' fiction, although these novels often include Sci Fi elements.

Jedi Animals Are All Around Us

People are getting concerned about global warming, the destruction of our natural resources and the extinction of thousands of animal species.

It’s about time. Imagine though, if the animals decided to stick up for nature instead of just sitting back and letting man take over and ruin everything with their SUV’s and their desire for hamburger patties grown in the ex-rainforests of Venezuela.

Imagine further, if you will, and entire army of animals, from all corners of the globe, angry, dedicated, and armed with light sabers.

Wolverine, X-Men 4 News

Super-producer Lauren Shuler Donner has just confirmed and denied rumours about the X-Men franchise at a Wolverine Blu-ray event held at The SLS Hotel, Beverly Hills.

First up, recent tweetage about 'First Class', the movie about the young mutants rescued by Wolverine at the end of Wolverine has been denied. No set casting, no set date, no set script. Although definitely 'on the slate'.

Christopher McQuarrie, writer of The Usual Suspects, has been confirmed as doing the script of Wolverine 2, which is very much set to include the fabled 'Japanese Story' and Wolverine's 'noble warrior' match up with the Silver Samurai.
