'The Box' - Donnie Darko Director is Back!

Richard Kelly, the genius who brought the world Donnie Darko, and the much misunderstood and unheralded Southland Tales, is back with his twisted version of a classic Sci Fi tale in 'The Box'.

The original story has impeccable pedigree. Written by Richard Matheson as a short story in 1970 (Matheson is a Sci Fi giant - the creator of I Am Legend, and an influence on top modern day Sci Fi and horror creators like Stephen King), it became a second season episode of the 80's revival of the Twilight Zone, in 1986. Also called 'Button, Button', it starred Mare Winningham, and none other than Midnight Express' Brad Davis, in one of his extremely rare TV appearances.

The film, starring Cameron Diaz, James Marsden and a freakishly disfigured Frank Llangella, looks to be the goods, blurring a classic moral conundrum with something a little bit 'other'. Could it be the devil they'r emaking a deal with? Who knows. A million dollars for someone's life - would you do it?

The film is scheduled to be released in Australia on October 29 (a day before the US - woohoo!).
