Jabba The Hunk
News Saturday, June 27 by Captain
Whilst Australians don't get into Halloween like Americans do (possibly because we've never actually burned any witches, who knows?), we still don't mind the occasional dress up. Dress up parties are often an excuse to live out a dark, long held fantasy. The burgeoning world of cosplay that is blossoming across the convention world is another way that people share their love of of wearing and becoming the fantastical.
Hell, some fans are defined by the clothes they wear - Firefly fans are known as Browncoats.
But there's a sad side to all of this joy, a downside to every awesome moment that someone has put on the Stormtrooper armour, slipped on the Leia slave bikini or gone green as an Orion Slave Girl.
That sadness is when too much fan goes into too little costume. Perhaps the world's most famous Tron fan, 'The Tron Guy' Jay Menard, is a good example of this. Awesome costume, disturbingly bulgy. Boba Fetts who are more Boba Fatt than Boba Finn, C-3PO's who are C-4PO's or Time Lords who are perhaps, cruelly, Time Lards.
It's just not fair. The desire to celebrate and become your favourite character, hampered by the distance between perceived fantasy and actual gravity.
But fear not! If you've ever wanted to get out there as a Sci Fi character without fear of ridicule from a vicious, small-minded (and smaller) public - here's your chance.
Enter through the portly portal, and become....
Jabba the Hutt!
Not only will Jedi Mind tricks not work on you, but you can drag a hot chick in a metal bikini around and not get in trouble for it.
May the chubby rise up, and conquer!

If you do want to get hold of this costume, you can get it from www.buystarwarscostumes.com. And if you're wondering, yes, it comes with its own battery operated fan. Awesomeness has never been so awesome.

The Single Greatest Star Wars Micro Moment EVER!
There was that one time when I saw The Empire Strikes back, and Han is just about to be lowered into the Carbon Chamber, and Leia says 'I love you' and he says 'I know'.
Well that is exactly what some people will think is the best moment ever (especially if they exchanged those phrases as wedding vows), but for true Sci Fi fans, there's a deeper level of awesome that stems from Star Wars micro-moments.
Like Yoda getting all evil and saying 'You will be, you willll beee" in ESB.
Or C-3PO's double take when Han won't let him speak on Hoth.
or even
"I'm nice people".
