Jonathan Frakes - Still Number One

For Star Trek fans, Jonathan Frakes needs no introduction. As the dashing Commander William T. Riker on Star Trek: The Next Generation, he is still 'Number One' to legions of fans all over the world.

Appearing in all 178 episodes of TNG, he is also one of the very few actors to appear in all three other spinoffs from the original Star Trek, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise. He is also an accomplished director, helming numerous episodes in the world of Star Trek before branching out into features, directing (among others) two films in the Librarian franchise (starring Noah Wyle) and directing and producing TV's Roswell.

The Day The Earth Stood Still Blu-ray Review

Starring Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly, John Cleese, Jaden Smith, Jon Hamm
Director Scott Derrickson
Rated M
Released April 29

For Sci Fi fans, the film's general tone, pace and content immediately place it into the 'smart Sci Fi' category. 'Figure it out for yourself, I don't need explosions, I don't need aliens to act like humans' sort of fans respond to this kind of Sci Fi.

Brand New Harry Potter Trailer Is Awesome

The new Harry Potter film's release date has been slipping and sliding all over the place like a particularly energetic snitch, but it seems more than likely we'll be seeing the sixth film in the Harry Potter Experience on the 15th of July.

The trailer points to the usual 'Harry in trouble' theme which yet again raises the question as to the safety and validity of sending children to boarding school. Looks like Draco Malfoy will be picking up where his dad left off and will be trying to help Lord Voldemort to vanquish Scarface Potter again. Sixth time's a charm! We don't think he'll succeed, though, with two more movies after this. However, it does look like Harry gets a bit 'evil'.

Stargate Cakes - Yummeh!

Stargate fans don't just have their mouths watering in anticipation of the upcoming Stargate Universe.

They can also enjoy their favourite show's favourite prop in baked goods form!

We've stumbled upon a recent post from 'Cake Wrecks' a blog that discusses the delights of theme cake baking. Their motto WHEN PROFESSIONAL CAKES GO HORRIBLY, HILARIOUSLY WRONG.

That me be the case for most of the cakes on display, but for Gaters, this is where Cakes GO RIGHT!

HAWX Update Ready for Download on Xbox 360 and PS3

For lovers of the Tom Clancy Jet fighting game, HAWX, good news!

The European Assault Pack downloadable content (DLC) packs for Tom Clancy’s HAWX for the Xbox 360 and the PS3 is now available.

The price for the European Assault Pack DLC is 400 Microsoft Points or $AUD 8.45 for the PS3. If you haven't seen the game, it's the kind of flight sim that borders on arcade action, but can get quite addictive with it's nice layout and frenetic action.

Here's some gameplay:

X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE REVIEW

Starring Hugh Jackman, Liev Schrieber, Danny Huston, Ryan Reynolds
Director Gavin Hood
Rated M
Released April 29

A film like Hugh Jackman's hair - fluffy on top, wirey on the bottom.

The first spin off from the X-Men trilogy proves dark in content but light in tone and execution. It's hard to take a movie based on a comic book seriously. It's one of The Dark Knight's most annoying legacies, that we do have to go into a world filled with people who have blades growing out of their knuckles or shoot laser beams out of their eyes and take them seriously.

Knowing: Top Ten Sci Fis With Religion

The Top Ten Sci Fi Movies and Shows with Religious Influences prefaced by a Sci Fi look at Knowing!

Knowing - Starring Nicolas Cage, Rose Byrne
Director Alex Proyas
Rated M

Knowing is one of those films that seems to be splitting audiences and critics right down the middle - or to be fair, splitting critics from audiences, right down the middle. Except for a few notable exceptions, (including Roger Ebert) most critics have enjoyed the first half, have been sometimes impressed by its disaster sequences but have been underwhelmed by its finale.

Clash of The Titans Begins Principal Photography

Principal photography started today in the US (April 27) but yesterday for us (because we're Australia, and we're cool) on Clash of the Titans directed by Louis Leterrier (“The Incredible Hulk”).

The film stars Sam Worthington (“Terminator Salvation,” the upcoming “Avatar”), Liam Neeson (“Taken,” “Schindler’s List”) and Ralph Fiennes (the “Harry Potter” films, “The English Patient”).

If you haven't seen the classic 1981 original, featuring a young Harry Hamlin and legendary stop-motion animation by Ray Harryhausen a) you haven't lived and b) you may not be as excited about this as the rest of us. That however, leaves c) people who know their Greek myths and d) the morbidly curious.

Let The Right One In - On Now In Sydney

Tomas Alfredson's now legendary cult classic vampire movie is now playing at the Palace Academy Twin in Sydney. We've been tracking this film ever since it played at the Sydney Film Festival a few years ago, and it's been an agonising journey for it to come to Australia, popping up here and there for special nights or seasons around the country.

It is by far and away one of the most interesting vampire movies made in decades, joining the icy world of Sweden in the 80's with the fragile world of children and of course, the enduring myth of vampires.
