Happy Birthday SCI FI!

(blowing of paper trumpets, throwing of streamers, popping sounds and general cheering and merriment)

That's right. On this day, two years ago, SCI FI Channel Australia was born. And of course, the only possible way to celebrate is with style, so we've gone all out - literally, to the edge of your newfangled widescreen TV.

From now on, SCI FI transmits in widescreen. And this week, we've got some great new shows that can take full advantage of that. Set your phaser banks to 'pretty impressed' as we roll out the best Sci Fi ever in the best possible ratio.

This week we've got a double dose of newness on our extra dose of wideness.

It all happens this Thursday, with a mind-blastingly awesome line-up.

At 7.30pm, Heroes returns to SCI FI with Season Two. With Season One's spectacular (and ambiguous) ending now a pop culture legend, it'll be interesting to see just where Tim Kring and Co take this twisting tale of ordinary people with extraordinary powers. First up of course, you know that they'll be taking it to medieval Japan - where Hiro Nakamura must meet his greatest hero - Takezo Sensei!

To think where this would all lead one day...

In modern day New York, Nathan Petrelli is in a dark mood four months after saving the city. His brother Peter is missing, presumed dead by everyone except Nathan. It sets the tone for this season, which is one of dark revelations and of finding out the real truth about not only your heroes, but your enemies.

Don't think for a second that we've seen the last of Sylar!

At 8.30pm, right after Heroes, we've got the SCI FI Premiere of Eureka. Created in 2006 (the same year as Heroes) it's become a huge favourite on the US SCI FI Channel, garnering the highest ratings ever for a regular series.

Eureka is a small town, somewhere in the Northwest of America, and it's the perfectly manicured tidy town created by the US government for the smartest scientists that nation can produce. Its aim is to create technological breakthroughs that will keep America safe from it's enemies - so amongst the fun of wacky absent-minded professors, there's this dark undercurrent of a megalithic government always demanding the most lethal weapons known to man. And that's why the town doesn't appear on any map - and is hidden by a form of holographic camouflage.

Into this strange little town wanders US Marshall Jack Carter, who is transporting a fugitive from Seattle to LA. And he's in for one heck of a shock. But oddly enough, in a town full of super-brains, he's the guy with enough common sense to keep it all together.

Eureka is a show that sparkles with humour, interesting characters and tremendous what ifs - and it's proven remarkably popular with all ages and all different 'flavours' of Sci Fi fans - from hard core tech-heads and people who just like a bit of fun. Whatever you do, don't miss it - especially on our sexy new widescreen.

Oh yes - you will be watching Eureka on Thursday nights. Every Thursday night. 8.30pm. The electrodes in your brain will make you happy.

The week finishes off with another remarkable show - this time, a blast from the bast that is literally amazing.

Amazing Stories!

That's right, Steven Spielberg's legendary series makes it's Premiere on SCI FI!

On Saturday, December 6, at 5.30pm, tune into this 80's classic compendium series, with new stories every week. Starring the biggest Hollywood stars of the day and directed by the very best in the business (including Spielberg himself) this is a Twilight Zone style show with a touch of class, and often a charming twist, with high production values. If you ever saw it, you know you need to get back to the good stuff - and if this is your first time - get ready for a ride!

We're showing double episodes every Saturday, so you can catch legendary episodes Ghost Train and The Main Attraction first up! See what happens when a 100 year old train turns up for its final passenger and when a school football star becomes magnetized by a meteorite - with hilarious results.

Ghost Train is directed by Steven Spielberg and stars a young Lukas Haas. Not to be missed. 5.30pm, Saturday.
