Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is the prequel and the third movie in the sexy vampires versus werewolves trilogy. Shot in and around Auckland, NZ, it stars Rhona Mitra as Sonja and Michael Sheen as Lucian. If you've seen the previous two films, Underworld and Underworld: Evolution, starring Kate Beckinsale as Selene, you may be wondering why she's not in this one. The answer is simple - it's a prequel, set several hundred years before the previous films.

Rhona Mitra as Sonja. Lethal in so many ways.
If you're a fan of the films, you'll know that the whole war between the Lycans and the Vampires all started when a young couple fell in love - forbidden love. And that's Lucian and Sonja! Ah, young love - with teeth, and hair.
The film is directed by Patrick Tatoupoulos, the monster making genius behind the original werewolves in the trilogy, and who's work in Godzilla was so impressive, they named Matthew Broderick's character after him. The film also stars Bill Nighy, who's looking pretty mean as Viktor, the vampire dad with a rebellious sword-wielding daughter.
Medieval Vampire and Werewolf action? Yes, please!

Bill Nighy as Viktor. Schkweeeeeee!
Get back to the beginning on January the 22nd. In the meantime, check out the trailer in Spectrum!

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009)
The third film in the trilogy is a prequel, and pretty much everyone in it has already died in the previous films. The trailer's up in Spectrum - but what do you think - is this a major mistake, or perhaps, a tremendous rebirth?
