The AFI-award winning film focus evenings held at Popcorn Taxi in Sydney and Melbourne can now be seen online at www.popcorntaxi.tv.
With its ongoing formula of 'see the films, meet their makers', Popcorn Taxi has introduced the very best of international filmmakers in person and over the phone to audiences in Sydney and Melbourne for the past decade. Which is pretty cool, since it all started with just two guys, Matt Wheeldon and Gary Doust, who had a big idea. Since then that idea has grown into an army of volunteers and core workers who put together some really cool events, with a focus on bringing local Australian talent to the fore.
It's a great way for film buffs to get behind the scenes and get the kind of answers you won't see on TV interviews and on DVDs.
Of course, there's always been a Sci Fi and Genre element to the programming - this year's events have included an in-depth chat with Guillermo Del Toro and a face to face meeting with Karen Allen, who spoke about Raiders of the Lost Ark, at an exclusive one-off re-screening of a remastered print of the 1981 clssic. For some, the first time they'd ever seen it on the big screen.
WIth its aim to further the interaction between filmmakers and filmlovers in Australia, it is officially a GOOD THING, and to be applauded.
Now with past events being recorded and released online, it means those who couldn't make it to either The Astor in Melbourne or Bondi Junction Hoyts in Sydney the first time around can have a look at what some of the world's coolest filmmakers are like when they've got their guard down.
