Look.

Everyone knows that JJ Abrams' reboot of Star Trek is going to be something pretty spesh. No matter how much you hate it. The one little anti-flurry in the slow build up of its hypernado is the back and forth about William Shatner (the original Captain Kirk) and his non-appearance in the film.

Apparently the official line, that he was offered a cameo, and refused, is bogus. According to William Shatner that is.

Here The Shat clears the air and tells the world straight. He also points out what years of Trek will do to a man (or character) - make him entirely unkillable.

It seems everyone's being very polite and wonderful about it. It does seem pretty certain that to include the current Shatner form into the reboot would have a been a bit tricky, given that a 'flashback' to an older Kirk than the one that died would also have had to incorporate a resurrection scene.

Whatever.

The upshot is, this video contains someone in Hollywood turning to camera and speaking from the heart. And that's worth the price of admission right there.
