Will There Be A New Doctor Who?

NEWS

Changes are afoot on The Doctor Who lot - with definite new personnel moving in for Season Five!

*spoiler alert (to put it mildly) obviously, something's up with The Doctor, read on, only if you dare...*

Everyone's worried about The Doctor, but should they be worried about someone else?

In a shock in the recently UK-aired Season 4 finale of Doctor Who, the current Doctor, David Tennant, appears to have an 'open ended' entry into next season...

He was seen to be 'regenerating' after falling afoul of a Dalek, after falling victim to 'extermination'.

A gigantic cliffhanger that sees the Torchwood crew, Rose, Donna and Sarah Jane Smith and the galaxy pretty much ready to hand in their lunch pail, also sees the raising of the seemingly impossible question - is fan fave David Tennant heading off the show?

The BBC have confirmed that he'll be in some specials next year, but official word from the Doctor Who set is non-existent. Not a peep.

There's a chance that the regeneration may be a plot squeezer, but there's also another chance that the world's favourite Scottish Timelord may be ready to hand over the sonic screwdriver.

Names that have been raised in blogs have included James Nesbitt (Cold Feet), and of all people, Robert Carlyle. The fact that these two actors are Scottish point to a rather small range of possibilities at this point, and a rather narrow corridor of blog imagination.

However, further afield, Simon Pegg has begged off any possibility, reasonably certain he would 'stuff it up' when asked if he would accept Doctorship.

No confirmations or denials at this stage. We'll keep you posted as info comes to hand.

However, what is certain is that Russell T Davies will step down as the lead writer and executive producer of Doctor Who in favour of Steven Moffat, the Bafta-awarded writer of the classic 'Blink' episode. Moffat will lead the Wales-based Doctor Who team in Season 5.

Swansea born Davies was recently awarded an OBE for services to drama.
