The joy of July's SCI FI Originals just keep on coming this week with some big names and a some big ideas - but first up this Monday is a bit of Star Trek Midnight Madness - the classic fun that is Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.
It's actually on at 12.10 am on Tuesday morning, but hey - this kind of Star Trek fun is the kind of thing you stay up for! With Kirk and McCoy stuck in a Klingon death camp and a plot to destabilize a newfound peace between The Federation and the Klingon Empire - that involves a young and spunky Kim Cattrall, you really can't afford to miss out. Certainly not with Shakespeare-quoting Klingons, sexy shape-shifting aliens and 'Captain' Sulu yelling lines like "then fly her apart, then!"
Tuesday's a big day this week, with another excellent X-Files lunchtime trilogy starting from 1pm. Sandwiched in between Mythology episode Herrenvolk Part 2 and the African-inspired mayhem of Tellko, is Home - one of the all time gangbuster X-Files episodes, featuring a house of inbred freaks that'll do anything to look after their mum. At times disturbing, icky, funny and heartwarming, you should make a date with Mulls and Sculls to see what goes on at 'Home' at 2.50pm. It's a good way to keep your X-Files eye in for the big new X-Files film release, I Want To Believe, next week on July 24.
Tuesday night at 10.20pm and it's our first SCI FI Original movie premiere of the week. 'Descent' features none other than Luke Perry and Worf himself, Michael Dorn, attempting to save the planet from a global volcanic catastrophe. Shall we say the action really heats up? Let's! See it to see the scientists saving the world fun, and for what Michael Dorn looks like now without the turtle shell on the forehead. There's a repeat on Wednesday the 16th at 1pm if you miss it first time around.
The other SCI FI original premiere this week also journeys into apocalyptic territory. It's 2084, and the United States have fallen apart after a nuclear war - and mutants stalk the land. Yes, mutants! If that isn't a recipe for success, what is? Deathlands is schlocktastic must-see viewing that stars Vincent Spano and Traci Lords. Don't even try to miss it, this Saturday at 1.30pm and 10.50pm.
