Believe it or not, but there's an International Film School in Sydney, and they're launching a series of Master Classes for writers keen to hone their skill in the craft of screen writing.
We're always keen to foster talent, or at least promote it, or, well, encourage it, at the very least, so if you've got a hankering to be the world's next big Sci Fi movie or even TV writer, then this might be something for you to have a look at.
The 2008 season of master classes begins on July the 26th and goes through until the 21st of November.
Here's what the IFSS has to say about the this year's lineup:
"The series features five industry heavy weights discussing various topics, including:
Billy Marshall Stoneking The Drama of Story July 26
Gives clear-minded and inspiring insights into the power of dramatic character storytelling.
Duncan Thompson Advanced Screenwriting Part 1 August 9
An advanced insight into the power of writing spell-binding moments, the ingredients of great films.
John Truby The Anatomy of Story August 30
Sees three act structure as training wheels for screenwriters. How to go beyond three act structure.
David Freeman Beyond Structure October 6
Goes beyond structure and articulates 200 powerful tools for the writer and development exec.
Stephen Cleary Genre Workshops November 21
Frequent visitor to Australia with his ground-breaking Arista development workshop.
The courses concentrate on promoting "Screenwriting Gurus" who offer practical approaches for elevating scripts to a level of power, emotional depth and excellence. IFSS believes the Australian industry is currently going through a soul-searching phase, questioning how it might meet the new standards of creative excellence demanded by new content regulations linked to the new 40% producers’ rebate.
IFSS believes people want practical and inspiring solutions. This suite of complimentary courses will quench just that need, and present IFSS as a centre of excellence. The whole notion of bringing a "flock of screenwriting gurus" to Sydney is, once-in-a-decade event."
So there you have it.
