The man first introduced to Australian audiences as a crafty Salmon fisherman ("I don't know how he can live with himself!") in an iconic John West commercial and then went on to provide the military-man-with-a-heart in such iconic shows as Twin Peaks, The X-Files and Stargate: SG-1 died Sunday the 29th of a heart attack at his home at Gibsons, in British Columbia. He was 65.
Born in 1942, in Aurora, Missouri, Davis earned a Bachelor of Science from Southwest Missouri State College, majoring in Art and Theatre. After three years in the army, reaching the rank of second lieutenant, he received a Masters Degree in Theatre from Southern Illinois University in 1970. He taught at British Columbia University for a decade, and then returned to SIU in 1982 - for a PhD in theatre- and hence took the literally dramatic turn to act and not teach.

Don S Davis. One of the Good Guys.
He has appeared on film and TV over 130 times since 1982, in such wide-ranging fare as Joani Loves Chachi, Body of Evidence, Wiseguy, MacGyver, Look Who's Talking, Cadence, Omen IV, 21 Jump St, Hook, A League of Their Own, Cliffhanger, The Outer Limits, Con Air, Best in Show, The Dead Zone, Andromeda, Supernatural and of course as the mystical Major Garland Briggs in Twin Peaks, Captain William Scully in The X-Files and Major General George Hammond in Stargate SG-1, where he appeared in 160 episodes.
A beloved member of the Stargate SG-1 cast and crew since its inception in 1997, he left the show in 2003 due to poor health, returning for guest appearances. However, he did make an appearance in the latest film, Stargate: Continuum. Fans and friends have always responded well to his generous and warm nature.
He was an accomplished artist and woodworker - his work can be seen at

The following message was posted on
Gateworld, on behalf of Don's widow, Ruby:
"Dear Fans and Friends of Don S. Davis,
So many of you have been touched by not only the work and art of Don S. Davis, but by the man himself, who always took the time to be with you at the appearances he loved, that it is with a tremendous sense of loss I must share with you that Don passed away from a massive heart attack on Sunday morning, June 29th.
On behalf of his family and wife, Ruby, we thank you for your prayers and condolences. A family memorial where Don's ashes will be scattered in the ocean will take place in a few weeks, and should you wish to, please make a donation to the American Heart Association in Don's memory."
He will be sorely missed by fans and friends alike.
