The SCI FI Original Movies are here!
This week sees the genius that is Cemetery Gates hit the airwaves as SCI FI unleashes a forbidden planet of movies created specifically for the SCI FI Channel.
A pair of stoner eco-activists liberate an ill-tempered mutated Tasmanian Devil (no lasers on its forehead though) from a lab and release it near a woodland cemetery – the same cemetery where a group of college students are making a film - and the son of the mad scientist who grew up with the previously un-mutated creature as a pet is helping out! Cemetery Gates (2006) stars Reggie Bannister, Peter Stickles and Aime Wolf in a goretastic horror comedy that's not to be missed by schlock connoisseurs.
Look out for a cameo from special make up effects legend Grgeory Nicotero, who worked on films like Misery, Army of Darkness, From Dusk Till Dawn, Spawn, Grindhouse and The Mist. Cemetery Gates also features playboy playmate Kristin Novak. Something for everyone, really!
Sci Fi Original Movie - Cemetery Gates June 17, 10.20pm
This week sees a great two parter on Star Trek: The Next Generation - Gambit. The Season Seven Classic sees a seemingly dead Jean Luc Picard go undercover with a team of bloodthirsty mercenaries who are scavenging the galaxy's archaeological sites for - well - for nefarious purposes - let's leave it at that. Joined on board the crew of the damned by a captured Will Riker, they must team up to uncover the mystery - the best way - to prove that Riker is a 'bad egg' Star Fleet officer (and we all know he had it in him!).
Star Trek : The Next Generation - Wednesday, 18th of June, Gambit (Part 1) 12pm and 6.30pm and Thursday the 19th of June, Part 2 at 12pm and 6.30pm.
On Friday, the 20th, at 7.30pm, there's an excellent behind the scenes look at the mythology of Stargate, on the aptly named Stargate: Behind the Mythology of Stargate. For those not familiar with the show, it's a fantastic introduction of its melding of Sci Fi and ancient mythology, where the show takes household Gods like the Egyptians Ra and Anubis and turns them into intergalactic baddies - and turns the Norse Gods like Thor into 'Greys'.
The weekend has a yet another Sci Fi Original - the Michael Pare-starrer Komodo vs. Cobra! How can you possibly ignore a film that has people being eaten by both a giant cobra and the misunderstood but still just as lethal giant Komodo dragon? Face it - you can't!
Komodo vs. Cobra screens this Saturday at 1.30pm and 10.50pm.
On Sunday, at 12.30pm, one of the all time fave Star Trek movies is screening - Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Join the crew of the original Enterprise as they travel back to 1986. It's got it all - humpback whales, 'Nuculer Wessels', Vulcan nerve pinches and patented Star Trek time travel. Awesome, and not to be missed.
