Supanova Pop Culture Expo (www.supanova.com.au) is coming to Sydney this weekend (June 21-22) but in a first, it'll be followed by Supanova's first ever Perth event the weekend after, on June 28-29.
If you're in Sydney or Perth (especially Perth) this may be your chance to check out a bona fide Sci Fi Convention.
Guests include Jared Padalecki and Sam Winchester from Supernatural (unfortunately Sydney only), Jewel Staite (Firefly & Stargate: Atlantis), Kandyse McClure (Battlestar Galactica), the Stars of TV's Gladiators and the one and only Nichelle Nichols (“Uhura” from Star Trek - The Original Series) who has now joined the cast of Heroes.
Howard Chaykin (Wolverine, American Flagg) and Joe Jusko (X-Men Trading Cards) will be representing the world of comic-books, and anime voice-actors Jeff Nimoy (Digimon, Naruto) and Quinton Flynn (Naruto, Bleach, Final Fantasy VII) will be filming a documentary on “Adventures in Anime” as part of their trip. So you may end up in an 'all-about' Anime documentary as well.
Local talent includes Ben Templesmith (30 Days of Night co-creator) - although he's flying back from the USA!, as well as best selling fantasy and sci-fi authors, Jennifer Fallon (The Tide Lords: The Immortal Prince) and Marianne De Pierres (Dark Space) who are both finalists in the 2007 Aurealis Awards.
Supanova tends to go all out, as well as having an excellent line-up of guests. Cosplay features hundreds of guest in full costume, celebrating their love of anime, gaming, comics, sci-fi and fantasy. There are interactive competitions, CCG (collectable card game) tournaments, wrestling, exclusive film and anime screenings and trailers, launches and mountains of merchandise available from a wide array of exhibitors.
Kids and families are very welcome to the shows - one child twelve and under is admitted free with any paying adult.
Supanova dates and location:
Supanova 2008 - Sydney, June 21-22, The Dome, Sydney Olympic Park.
Supanova 2008 - Perth, June 28-29, Claremont Showground.
Tickets are available from www.ticketek.com.au or at the door.
