Toshiba has announced that it will discontinue marketing, manufacturing and distributing HD DVD players. March is the official month of delivery stoppage.
Here is the official word for all those who have bought an HD DVD player and are eagerly awaiting Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek et al on HD:
"Toshiba intends to maintain collaborative relations with the companies who joined with Toshiba in working to build up the HD DVD market, including Universal Studios, Paramount Pictures, and DreamWorks Animation and major Japanese and European content providers on the entertainment side, as well as leaders in the IT industry, including Microsoft, Intel, and HP."
We will endeavour to report as soon as possible when and if major titles shift HD format to Blu-ray. In the meantime, have a look at the Sony BDP1-SE BRD player, or the Sony PS3, when planning your long term HD future.
