By any standards, this week is a big week on SCI FI.

On Tuesday the 29th, 7.35pm, the final episode of Afterworld will screen. The end of an epic journey in both storytelling and cross media entertainment will mark the final note in Russell's less than excellent adventure. For those who've become die-hard fans through daily updates (or even podcasts) it'll be huge.

On Wednesday the 30th, 10.30pm, it's the SCI FI premiere of Battlestar Galactica Season 2. Those who have been crying, nay, screaming, out for more Battlestar Galactica can finally rejoice in more episodes. With recent announcements that BSG will only run 4 Seasons in entirety (proving, once and for all, that there is no God, for a universe with a benevolent supreme being would surely have at least 11 seasons of BSG (and SG1!)), it means that the BSG viewing process must, for hardcore fans, be tuned to the 'savouring' frequency. And of course we know we won't have to wait that long to see if they get to Earth or not. And if Earth is merely populated by Cylons. But I digress.

Season 2 kicks off not with a bang, but after a bang - Season 1 finished with a pre-programmed newly discovered Cylon, Boomer, shooting Adama in the guts, the less than trustworthy Gaius Baltar discovered, with Six, that 'the shape of things to come' looks like a human/Cylon half-breed; and poor old Starbuck was stuck on Caprica with a big old arrow and a number Six with homicidal intentions.

Season 2's first episode is a monster, the first half of a two-parter, and has a race against time to avoid a devastating (and spectacular) Cylon attack, a weird and wonderful inner journey for Baltar as he's stuck on a Cylon-infested Kobol, and Starbuck, well, if you've watched season 3 (and come one, we all have) then you really need to see the entire two part episode, because there's a lot of sneaky clues here and there - as well as some of the most amazing music ever scored to Sci Fi TV.

Battlestar Galactica isn't just the best Sci Fi series ever made, it's one of the best TV series ever made. Watch it every Wednesday, 10.30pm, at its spiritual home, on SCI FI.

When it comes to Sci Fi music, nothing is as memorable as the five notes from Close Encounters of The Third Kind (there's a ringtone for you!), SCI FI's movie of the week, at 1.30pm, 11pm on Saturday and 12.30pm. Steven Spielberg's classic is still a wonder to behold. A great end to a great week on SCI FI.
