It’s the week before Christmas, and whilst most of us will be running about like headless chooks trying to finish off the year’s work or buy those last minute Christmas presents, some of us will do the sensible thing and take a little ‘time out’ for Sci Fi.
After last week’s excellent online chat, it’s hard not to urge everyone to join the legions of fans who’re hooked on our daily screenings of Afterworld. Every night at 7.30 – it’s five minutes of post-Apocalyptic coolness. If you haven’t managed to catch it, you can download it onto your computer or even podcast it. Afterworld is a great way to spend the early commute with your video iPod.
Tuesday the 18th at 6.30pm sees one of Star Trek: The Next Generation’s most interesting early episodes – Conspiracy, where Picard discovers an alien plot to take over the Federation by infiltrating Starfleet. Real Invasion of The Body Snatchers stuff, with some of the most disgusting Star Trek special effects, ever, this is one you should make sure you see if you haven’t already.
However, for absolute must-sees, you can’t go past Terminator 2: Judgement Day. For some reason, James Cameron just seems to be really, really good at sequels. This is no exception. With Arnie back (again, sort of) as a good Terminator fighting off the brilliantly cold and evil Robert “nice bike” Patrick as the new, liquid-metal impale-your-head-with-my-arm-sword Terminator, this is a movie filled with everything you could possibly want in a time-travel, humans versus machines fight to the death boondoggle. If you haven’t seen it for a while, share the joy once more of the groundbreaking visual effects, cheesy lines and lethal Linda Hamilton.
Screening on Saturday at 1.30pm and Sunday at 12.30pm makes you want to beg for rain. Hasta La Vista, baby!
